I'm due for an oil change soon and I don't want to buy more right now.
I have 2 quarts from 6 months ago and then another 2 quarts from about a year ago. Both Mobil 1 4t 10-40 however the older bottles are black and the newer ones are silver.

Can I combine them for my next oil change? Is anyone familiar with that line who can confirm nothing is different and it's just a bottle change?

Also, where is a good place to buy a new air filter online? All i can find are the freaking K&N filters and I don't really want one of those.

Thanks to anyone who can offer some insight.

Regarding the oil... Don't worry about it a bit. There is absolutely no significant difference between the oil in each bottle. Oddly enough, I used one of the older Mobil 1 "black bottles" during my last oil change.

As for getting the Yamaha OEM air filter... Next time you're looking for something like that go to this thread - http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=1326.0 - and get the part number, in this case it's 23P-14451-00

Then simply do something like this: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=23P-14451-00

Or call somebody like "Stadium Yamaha" (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=stadium+yamaha) and order one up. Or you can get one from your local Yamaha dealer! :)

Hope this helps!

Karson, Dallara. Thanks for the links / info on the oil.

It is definitely 2 separate batches but I don't see anything wrong with mixing them.

I will be ordering an air filter, my local dealer likes to special order everything which involves a trip to order it and a trip to pick it up. Why they don't stock maintenance items is beyond me. ::010::

and as for the filter, that thread is a great help! I just don't like K&N because I tend to never clean them... ever

Call the parts department and order the air filter. Pay for it when you pick it up.
