I notice the springs are not included, does anyone know if you can use the springs you already have, I am already running 0.8s on mine.

The kit weighs in at about £850 of our English pounds which is probably more than I would want to spend, especially as I have already modified mine - plus as about £250 made it a whole lot better I am concerned the extra £1000 it will cost me with fitting would be a bit of a let down as at four times the price of the current mods I would want to really notice a lot of difference.

How do you find the 0.8's and how much do you weigh? I've got a set of 0.8's which I'm waiting to put in. I found the 0.9's too hard for road riding. I've had the compression circuit modified which now isn't too bad. I'm also cautious about spending up big on the Ohlins kit for a minor improvement and would rather give another set of springs a go.......especially after learning that Ohlins are using soft springs in their cartridge kit.

I'm no suspension expert but I know good feeling stuff when exposed to it. My guy told me the biggest issue with the Tenere front forks is the valving which is typical of a oem setup. Get that sorted to your riding style and it's a good set of forks and of course a correct spring rate for your weight. Once I had my Tenere forks revalved it's night and day difference and the forks feel as good as my racebike with a Ohlins 30 mil drop in kit replacing the GSXR's big piston fork (BPF) junk from the oem.

It is alot cheaper to have the oem forks revalved by a qualified technician than to dump $1300-!500 in a ohlins setup. Nothing wrong with the ohlins setup if you got the money to burn but from my experience of owning the ohlins and a nice revalved set of oem forks is I will go revalve on the streetbike and spend the extra money elsewhere. Now on a racetrack yea I went ohlins all the way but I was dealing with crappy BPF forks to begin with which can be made good but not as economically as a coventional fork like the Tenere has. Labor cost would be prohibitive in modifying the BPFs.

Even if I had to have heavier springs in the Tenere forks I still would have come in at or under $500 bucks. Not here arguing the facts of to buy ohlins or not just throwing other quality options out there.

I weigh in about 80kg without bike gear on, springs seem good, but oil and air gap also altered by the guys who fitted them. They seemed to think a re-valve would not really be worthwhile on the S10....

....is the implication here that the Ohlins kit is no better than OE stuff but just valved differently

I thought there was a lot more to it with a Cartridge kit - a bit like an Ohlins shock is a lot better than an OE shock that has been re-valved, won't do anything until next spring so will see how this all pans out ::017::

I had this set up from Jaxon on my 2012, and liked it so much that I moved the Ohlins front kit and rear shock to my 2014 two days after buying the bike.

Best,

Chris
Is the fork kit easy to install, or does it require a specialist?

I'm sorry I can't be of any help with this question - I didn't do the install - Ohlins did it for me. I rode the bike down to their shop in Hendersonville NC, had the Yamaha dealer down the street pull the forks and rear shock, got a ride to Ohlins just around the corner, let them do their magic, and was back on the road 5 hours later.

Best,

Chris

Thanks, does anyone else know who has had these installed?

Fredz had them and Ohlins shock said he thought his 14 ES was better. PM him if he doesn't see this. He's always helpful and honest and is really fast.

That's one view, and then there's this one ;)

I replaced my stock Gen1 suspension with a Penske setup. Completely transformed the bike, so much so that I find myself complaining about the performance of the ES on my Gen2 machine.

Yeah suspension is so subjective to how one rides. Be nice to be able to ride someone's before dropping the money.
That's for sure...

The best route afa bang for the buck goes seems to be the Ohlins shock and revalving the stock forks as posted above, unfortunately I'm in Japan so that's not gonna happen.

Yes, we sell them often... These Ohlins units are always set up for each individual rider when they go though us.... Some dealers pull an Ohlins off the shelf and its NOT set up for that rider..

If anyone has any questions about the shock or the forks just let me know.. I use the same stuff on my Tenere. I have experience with ride, set up, etc.....

Thanks

Actually don't know if these are the "30mm kit", but these are Ohlins front forks that were built for me through Tabasco.
I opted for the DLC coating since I had to do without my forks while they were at Ohlins USA anyways.

Maybe the 30mm Kit was released after these forks were done?
