If you'll admit it, so will I.
Confession is good for the soul. Plus sooner or later someone from here is going to see me ride. At that point they would be scratching their head and wondering what the hell was he talking about.

Not so.

ABS off for the rear brake skids I guess but I know with TC2 selected, the bike will power slide like a champ and keep the amateur, non-Dakar pro rider out of trouble. I use TC2 all the time on lake roads around here and the bike slides great! With TC off, you better know what you're doing 'cause 1200cc's will break the rear tire loose, real easy, all the way up to about 70 mph in the dirt.

Fixt. :D
He is definitely in TCS OFF mode much if not all of the time. That rear wheel is not just stepping out a bit like TCS2 allows. In TCS 2 it still chatters in and out of TC, He is in full spin with no chatter in all of those fast sliding scenes and in that wheelie scene. DEFINATELY TC off.

ABS on/off in that vid is a mix in my opinion. There are times when it looks and sounds like ABS is engaging, but there are also a few times when it is definitely off as the rear is in full lock and dragging around tight corners, so I think he is playing in both settings.

As to the easy wheel lofting, my guess is a reflash and maybe some unobtainium do dads but it can be accomplished in stock trim, although with a bit more physical body mechanics than it looks like he is using....he MUST have the CJM....lol

Very nice. This has inspired me to find a nice closed circuit loop and do some experimenting with TC1,2-off.
I'm guessing Sport mode is a given in this vid?

I've seen you ride and caught your roost... no head scratching here!
:D ...sorry about that roost thing.

As far as some of those power slides, I'm saying TCS off. That's a favorite activity of mine, and TCS2 is much too restrictive. If I have to stop and turn off TCS every time my wheels touch dirt, there's no way that guy is leaving TCS on.

Newer Big Block? Current compound much better life.
And I love it on tarmac. For a knobby, it's been a pleasure.

This one will be dead with less than 3000 miles on it. But that's much better than the original compound. And still dirt cheap.

Unless they came out with a new compound in the last few months then it is the new compound.
I just find the rear end stepping out big time under hard acceleration while leaned over. My BMW does not have TC though. It was predictable and controllable but squirmy.
I am hard on tires though...always have been. Remember I am only getting 30-32 mpg on my Ten.... ::013::

Hard acceleration while leaned over. :)
Yea, doesn't sound like me on tarmac with a knobby.
I don't baby it, by all means, and I don't slow down at all. If it's 75 or 85mph time, then melting knobs is called for.

The new compound has been out for several months now. But reports were that old stock was still being sold in some places. Should be all gone by now though.

Snake - as per our discussions, I am looking at putting some knobbies on my "dirt bike" and had settled on trying the Big Blocks on your suggestion. If they melt off after carving a smile on my face, then so be it - should be a fun and inexpensive experiment. But is there any way to tell whether an ordered Kenda Big Block is old or new compound - like some sort of carcass marking or code number?

Nice pull Cheques...good catch.

Ohlins shock with a reservoir. Likely High and Low speed compression....
and what is that on the swingarm? An anti jacking device? My bike does not jack bad enough to worry about that but I have not been jumping it...yet

Trikepilot,
I don't know of any markings on the tire that would help you differentiate. I did read an article that said you would have to have them side by side to see the very minor difference in block spacing.

I'll try to find the article and reference it for you.

It should be getting very difficult to find the old ones now. Just buy em from some place that has to order them? If they don't have old ones in stock, they will likely be getting new ones from distributor.

One thing for sure, if you still have a good strong tire after 1000 miles, it's the new ones. :)

Well then that settles it, The Pros torque steer the rear and the Amateurs skid steer. :D
