Wanted to submit this post to make positive comments about the Bridgestone tires on my 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere ES. I'm an older guy (ridden for over 50 years on multiple models) and have never got over 10K out of a set of tires, OEM or otherwise. These tires have been superb. Attached link for photos,( https://goo.gl/photos/rPKQcaNYp3cMArY38 ) Put about 8,700 highway+1,800 gravel on these in the year I've had the bike; thus, the 90/10 ratio was accurate on actual usage. Intend to stick with brand on change out due to great support from Bridgestone/Firestone technical services. Believe they would have another 1 or 2,000 left in them and would not put new ones on now were it not for an upcoming extended Canadian trip. Will switch from the Battle Wings to Battle Ax A40's to obtain more wet condition traction from their silica additives. A great product at a fair price. Ride safe, AK VET

If you like the Battle Wings (I do) wait until you ride on the Mitas e-07 Dakar. The Mitas tires love the Super Tenere. They are a 50/50 tire and they are the best road tire I have ridden on my two Super Tenere's, two KLR's, and a V-Strom 1000.

I have to say after 5k of all most all tarmac I'm really impressed, they turn in well and inspire so much confidence, I've had the bike right to the edge of the tyre. That said when the time come to change I'll be trying E07 Dakars next, I'm keen to try more gravel and we always ride broken tarmac back roads, the knobblier E07 will do well I think.

I have 2500 miles, front looks new, back noticeable wear, no chicken strip, and a definite flat spot in middle , I'm heavy handed on the throttle be suppressed to get another 2/3k out of the rear, that said they are smooth, stick on pavement really well, and on gravel dirt roads hook up pretty well. Mud and wet dirt they SUCK. Mina's e07 next, why Dakar over regular I wonder? What's the difference thicker casing? Rougher ride?

+1

My problem is I have to ride so much tarmac to get to some rougher stuff. It is a blast when you get there and turn off the TCS.

After having the 5" long bolt go through my 800 mile old Battle Wing, I'm still of the opinion the tire is subpar. Even though, for the price $133.00, for the rear, I went ahead and bought another one. I have a set of Mitas Dakar sitting to install next. The Mitas is at least 2x tougher construction it appears by comparing the tires side by side, maybe even 3x. I don't think a 5" long 8mm bolt will ever ruin a Mitas tire. To me the Mitas will be a welcome change.

There are several versions of the Battlewings, one, I think it's an "e" code, is Super Ténéré specific. Maybe there's a difference in toughness between the different codes?

I had "excellent" wear from the stock tires. I now have Metzler street tires on my bike since I do mostly street riding. When I wear these out I will go back to the Battlewings.

The Battlewings for the Tenere, "E" spec, are V rated (versus H) and have 1/32 additional tread depth compared to the Battlewings that come on the Vstrom 1000.

I too like the Battlewings, but also show the beginning of a flat spot in the center; with only 3k miles. In the tire's defense, I find myself downshifting too early and can feel the ABS kicking in on the rear. And as we know, if the ABS is activating that means the tires is locking; and leaving valuable rubber behind. I weigh 320lbs, and ride often with my wife. That has to be hard on a tire. I TRY to limit my straight line hard acceleration, but.... I too am going to try the A40s next. The reviews advise that they are as good overall as the BWs, and have a slight cornering improvement with a substantial wet traction improvement. Has anybody here used the A40s yet?

I had an A40 on the rear but I took it off to fit a matched set of Anakee IIIs before my summer tour last year. Good tire and it worked well with the half-worn OEM front Battle Wing. I scored a barely used set of Battle Wings that I will fit once the Anakees have worn out. I'll use what's left of the A40 I still have for the second half of the life of the new front BW. I was thinking Shinko 705s but noticed they aren't available with a V rating.

My rear was thru the wear bars by 7000 miles. I put on K60's, they now have 8000ish and will be good for a few thousand more.

FWIW I've never gotten 10,000 on any rear motorcycle tire.

Is this the time to mention my getting 17,000 miles (not km) on a K60? Or that SAIL2XXS got 27,000 miles?

O:)

Seriously and back to the OP, the OEM Battlewing is a really good bang for the buck tire. There's a lot it is not best at, but it's pretty good and for not much money.

The Full Bore M40 looks like a 705 knockoff and is V-rated. Almost the same cost and I got similar mileage from the front and rear, about 10K/6K.

Thanks for the tip. Who makes them? The site has no information about the company.

::026:: I think that you're right. I just don't think that it was designed for the frequently heavy loading that I'm putting it through. That being said, I don't know if the A40 will hold up any better with the same conditions. If it doesn't, I may have to go back to the BT-023s. I was getting almost 10k miles with them on the ST1300PA that was being ridden like a rented mule. Good grip and tread life. (dual compound)

I'm not sure who makes them, Chaparral has them for $95. RMATV has the Shinko for $85 bucks. Do you really need a V-rated tire? I mean, 130mph is pretty dang fast and wouldn't you rather use a Hayabusa? Just sayin'

Looking back, it was 4,500mi for the FB and I get a thousand more with the 705. Hey...be careful out there, Bertrand!

Yea, the H rated tires are rated for 130mph. I would not care a bit running a H instead of V.
