I ran a full set of Givi Trekkers on my first Tenere, but my new one has OEM panniers installed. I had planned to use a Givi V47 tail trunk, but wonder if I am going to have problems with opening the lids on the top-loading OEM panniers. I'm sure many others have a similar setup and provide some words of wisdom.

Thanks!

Rod I went with the Givi Trekker Outback 42L top case. The OEM pannier lids just clear. I have an older Givi E46, from my ST1100 and then on the ST1300, that I planned to use, but the OEM pannier lids won't clear it. Don't know if the shape of your V47 is similar or not.

Great input! That's exactly what I was afraid of. I have been using the V47 for sometime now on both the FJR and the Wee and it's a nice size, but I may have to switch out. I was just looking at the new Outback 42L and thought it looked pretty good! Did you have it installed at WeSTOC? I wish I had paid more attention - but at that time I didn't know I would be getting a Tenere again!!! ::025::

I did have it installed at WeSTOC but I kept it in my room most of the time after I arrived. Here's a photo though:

Looks good Jeff! Thanks for the picture.

Looks like I will most likely let my V47 go with the Wee when I sell it - unless I can find someone looking for one.

I can confirm that the TRK52N from Givi does not allow the oem panniers to open without twisting the lid in a way that will damage them over time.

Yeah, not good.

I ordered the Outback 42L this morning based on Jeff's positive review and will either sell my V47 outright or use it as a bargaining item when I sell my Wee.

What I did was just set my E460 on top of the OEM tail rack to confirm clearance issues, you could try that when you get the bike home. If you go for the Trekker, consider ordering from motostorm.it in Italy. I was able to get the box, mounting plate and some Givi crash bars for about what I would have paid for the box alone state side and that included $30 shipping.

After being thoroughly unimpressed with the OEM panniers, I replaced them with the TRK33N's rather than give up the TRK52

I like the look of the OEM panniers and that they tuck in pretty tight, 36" total width. That's an important consideration here in CA where lane splitting is allowed. The only other bags that seem to tuck in as well are the Jesse's which is what I was planning to get. That was until I saw multiple reports that they leak and got to look at a set close up and did not care for the attachment mechanism it interfered with the exhaust shield on the left on the example I saw. I also like that the mounting hardware for the OEMs is pretty inconspicuous when the bags are absent. The Jesse bags are also kind of plain looking to me but that's entirely an individual subjective impression, and nothing you couldn't fix with some travel stickers! The locks on the OEM bags is the low point, fiddly stiff and cheap feeling. On a few occasions I've found that the lid doesn't catch and I have to try again. So far I've not ridden off with a lid unlatched luckily.

Just talked to a guy on a KLR, who had Jesse Panniers, and he said he needed a dry liner bag, because they leaked.

Wow, wish I would have read this before I ordered the tail bag from another outfit! I'm still undecided on the bars, but if the price was right, it would have helped make the decision easier!,

I had Givi bars on my first Tenere, but was looking a bit at the Puig bars as another option.

My Givi Outback 42L arrived today. All I can say is WOW! After owning multiple Givi bags over the years, this thing is like a tank compared to anything I have ever owned before!!!! Also received my rack. Now all I need is my new bike to install it on!!!!! ::025::

When is your Tenere coming home?
I had high hopes of getting it within days of making the deal, but had a problem timing as both my wife and I had "other" travel plans that could not be changed. In the end, the earliest date we could work up was the second week in May, so as of now I'm at 13 days and counting!!!

Yeah it's stout and well made but not really any heavier than a molded Givi case of similar size/volume.

Yes, it just seems pretty robust - especially the latch system. I compared the weight to my V47 and not a lot of difference in reality.

Surprised to see the alternate bumpers, but then I remembered you mentioning the need to change them out to avoid the trunk being somewhat loose on the rack.

That's what the Givi "cartoon" instructions seem to indicate you should do. After installing the taller bumpers I could not get the top box to latch to the rack. I pushed and pushed, even getting up on a small stool to improve my leverage and still couldn't get it to latch. I ended up putting the thinner bumper pads back in that had been installed in the rack as supplied. The box then clicked right into place and is not loose on the rack at all. The latch assembly makes a little bit of a metallic rattle on the Botts dots between lanes when splitting but I can only hear it running at below 30 MPH, so not any issue.

Interesting! I'll be sure to try it first before changing anything out.
Thanks!

13 days and counting - and the farkles just keep arriving at my doorstep, with nothing to install them on!!! ::017::
