Hi all.

I'm looking at some PIAA 530 LED fog lights and was wondering if somebody has a measurement of the diameter and depth of the OEM fog lights for comparision. The 530 measures 3.5" (89mm) diameter and 3" (76mm) deep. They look almost exactly like the OEM halogens, but I wanted to verify the size is the same before I sprung for a pair. Thanks!

These fog lights sell for only $279.00 for a pair and only consume 6W per lamp.

Nice looking lights. I wonder what the beam pattern and lumen ouput is?

Notice this interesting tidbit?

"Unlike most LED lamps currently in the market that position the LED aimed straight out forward, the 530 lamps aim the LEDs at the reflector. This new orientation of the light source allows for far better beam control and output than the conventional layout."

Oh, and each light uses 2 LEDs each...so 6 watts per light.

It also looks like they make these in a Driving Light as well....part # 5372 no details either.

Thanks! So it looks like I'd be dealing with an extra 1/4" diameter per light, but less depth when the OEMs are already a snug fit when mounted just beneath the headlights...hmmm! Think I'll have to measure how much room is in there before going further. Thanks again for the help!

I think you'll be fine. Plenty of room in there to work with.

Tremor and others, PIAA will have a Tenere kit specific coming out the first of the year for the 530 LED. I have talked briefly with an employee there on this. I don't know more than this at this time.

Beat me to it,Firefight! Of course after having made the additional piece (1/8 x 2 flat alum. stock) to make the SW brackets work with these lights I find out that PIAA is coming out with a bracket ::010:: The 530s seem like they're going to serve my purpose which is increased visibility to others as I don't ride at night if I can help it. Nice white light and with only 12 watts of draw I didn't bother with a relay, used a weather proof switch from Radio Shack

Hi Tremor, I happen to also be looking at different LED riding lights, actually looked at PIAA amongst many others. I'm in the market for a few different riding lights for several bikes at the same time.

- XT1200Z / S10
- XVS1100AC
- CFMoto Jetmax maxi scooter

Background;
I've upgraded my Dragstar Classic 1100 from a halogen to HID headlight conversion over a year ago. However I've wanted something to make the bike stand out. I've bought the OEM Yamaha driving lamps from an online dealer in the USA along with loads of other OEM accessories two years ago. The only item I'd ordered and paid for at the time that didn't arrive (USA-China) was the driving lamps mounting bracket (signal/turn/indicator lamp and driving lamp bracket conversion kit) to go with the OEM driving lamps (halogen) and the OEM front screen - the bracket was on backorder. The dealer I'd ordered from went bust and I never did get the mounting bracket nor a refund, and all emails went unanswered. The dealers website business was bought by another dealership and when I contacted them they replied that they weren't obligated to honour the previous deal. Consequently I took my business elsewhere and ordered some more OEM goodies online from another dealer (in MA) including the missing mounting bracket. Had a friend who has a building renovations company in MA receive the goods in his warehouse, where one of his logistics people unpacked and then repacked the goods, so my friend could being with on his next trip to China (he trips between USA-China 6-8 times per year). Long story short, that friggin mounting bracket wasn't in the package. Friend never saw any of the goods himself, though he checked with his logistics people who swore they un/repacked everything and nothing was misplaced. The dealer swore they sent it, so I ended up wearing that one. So I've had my Dragstar fitted with everything except those driving lamps. Fast forward to now, and I'm thinking of going with a set of LED lamps with a round clamp fitted to the indicator/turn signal bracket so I don't have to worry about trying to obtain that elusive driving lamp mounting bracket for a third time.

Since I'm looking for LED style lamps for the Dragstar I also want something inexpensive for the S10 as well. I've read lots of reviews on a range of websites including web bike world http://www.webbikeworld.com/lights/ ; http://www.clearwaterlights.com lamps, http://www.bikevis.com, http://www.optronicsinc.com available through Walmart http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&search_query=Optronics&Continue.x=0&Continue.y=0&Continue=Find&ic=24_0
and many others.

For the Jetmax, I changed out the 35w halogen dual headlight bulbs and went with 25w HID lights although the packaging has 35w printed on the outside. They are a Chinese brand bought locally and work well, fairly bright. I also swapped out the small little T10 park light bulbs with a pair of T10 4w LED's which are bright, but not big enough to be seen with gusto from any kind of distance especially during the day. Since the scoot has a huge surface area, I'm thinking about either multiple LED's like bikevis or a LED light strip.

I'm looking at a few different options for all 3 bikes, and even though some of the vendors are having their products made in China (optronics being one), I can't seem to locate any on the ebay equivalent in China - taobao http://www.taobao.com the majority of products are for cars and the like.

At the same time, I'm very interested in some LED strips, like what AUDI and BMW et al. are putting on their cars, these are a bright white when on, and figure something like this would help my bikes standout during daytime riding. Lots of choices in this area.

Likely will go with some PIAA which are being sold via a auto accessory company http://www.allcrossparts.com/gb/parts_detail.asp?id=17
using the B2C taobao http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=9595187215 platform although these look like they are supplied as a car application.

I'd go with the Optronics lamps based on the price alone, somewhere in a vicinity of $25-30. Just have to get them into China unscathed.

Just my 0.10c

Thanks!

Those look like they're mounted more closely to the top of the 'void' when compared to Nittany's install. Must be a difference in the mounting brackets.

That's interesting. hopefully the brackets won't be provided exclusively to Yamaha as part of a $400.00 kit! :)

I was hoping to mount them to the crash bars to get more of a light "triangle" but wasn't comfortable with some possible clearance issues with the fork legs and damage when the bike goes over. I think I've got them as low as I can go and still have fender clearance at full compression. I might yet shift things higher by placing my 1/8 plate on top of the SW brackets with some spacers, would take all of 10 minutes.

Yeah, I finally got a look at your install pic with something other than my smart phone scree :D Looks like that would be an easy adjustment 8)

Thanks.
