I have the opportunity of buying a V-Max and I really want a machine like that. I can get it for silly money .... but these things are ridiculous .... they eat tyres, drink fuel like its goin' out of fashion, are totally impractical but I love 'em. Trouble is I'd have to lose a bike to do it ... which one. :-\

Swagger don't even think about getting rid of the XT! ;D I know what you mean about the Max I demo rode one and it was awesome. So much power and torque but yes the gas mileage was as bad as a V8. I bet insurance isn't pretty either.

Swagger,
I know with most every bike I have owned I ride it pretty swiftly, mostly in the corners. These are the past Honda ST's and VeeSTrom which aren't even that fast. I CAN'T IMAGINE riding some butt-rocket as a VMax knowing how I like to twist the throttle at times. I like to think of myself as a responsible individual, but all it takes is that one time or wrapping on the throttle feeling the V-Boost kicking in where it would be lights out for me!!!! Ahhh, but yes it would be sweet to ride someone else's once in a blue moon, sorta to tell myself I never need to buy one of those things!!!! Man my heart is pumping, where did I put the Glycerin Tablets!!!!!

I have had a VMax for 10 years. Yup, you can twist it until the VBoost kicks in and then it pulls your arms outta your shoulder sockets. I love MadMax and will never part with it.

ST here today.

I'm off to have a play with the Max in a while. The missus has asked me to run a few errands .... just happens that I'll be passing the toy shop .... well close enough. Fifteen mile is close ... right? ::) BTW she said I can't have a Max ... so that's it then. She's gonna have to go .... ??? :)) :))

1st or 2nd gen? I always thought the first gen was a clean design with a lot of charisma, but the 2nd gen crossed over that gray line towards being silly and cartoonish. And if you're talking about significant money for a 2nd gen, I'd stretch to get a Diavel which is just an immensely better overall machine.

I always wanted a 1st gen Max. Go 4 it Swagger. As for getting rid of a bike good luck, never an easy decision.

It's a gen 2 machine .... fully kitted up with Akras, PC V, Rizoma everything, auto tune kit, pazzo's .... all kinds of other high end stuff. Wow ... it's a beast. Will make my mind up over the coming week.

What bikes are you thinking to put on the block for the V-Max

Sounds like a great bike for a one-night stand, but you'll wake up the next morning wishing you hadn't put the beer goggles on. And keep in mind that because of the high weight, these powerful bikes aren't really that fast - any well-ridden modern liter sportbike will spank a V-Max even in a straight line, let alone a corner. No matter how you cut it, that's a ton of dough for a bike that does one (and only one) thing well - surge brutally forward at any engine speed.

You only live once! If I could swing it, I wouldn't even pause to think. Enjoy it while you can......just keep it between the ditches.

I will never forget in 1986 the guy across the street had a hopped up VMAX and was backing it out into the street to go to work when I showed him a twisted throttle hand. He saw me and gassed it and lit it up. he smoked the tire in one spot, let off the gas and shot 200 feet down the road getting on the binders hard just to make the stop sign. He looked back and I gave him a thumbs up. That was cool! 8) I needed a video camera on that one. :lamp:

Though I've never ridden one, I imagine this is pretty close to the reality of it. From all I've read, the V-Max deserves a lot of a respect, which becomes fatiguing to give.

However, it is a seriously badass bike. >:D

Mark ... your're not wrong my friend. All that you you say makes perfect sense of course. Trouble is you are talking to someone that has owned other daft bikes .... and loved 'em to bits. The Max just happens to be approaching the pinnacle of daftness. :) In my line of business ... life is a little too short to get too hung up on practicalities ... I will not decide on this for a few days yet ... by then it may well be sold and normality will be restored ::)

I've taken some passionate flyers too. Like you mention, I do allow myself a cooling-off period before any big-ticket purchases these days. If the fever is still there in a week, then there's a good chance its a keeper. I also try and remember what a PITA it is to sell bikes. And I live in a state with very high sales tax, so there's tremendous overhead in flipping bikes.

I'm with Rod and Mark on this.

It sure is good that we've a suitable "cooling off" period before we decided on the Tenere, eh? ;)
