not all the gears in the box!!

I consider my vehicle maintenance to be more than adequate. But I have NEVER lubed a shift or brake pivot on any of my current/past bikes. Is this just a Tenere thing? Because if it's an "every bike" thing I feel real stupid. That being said, I have NEVER had ANY shifting problems. And I will be lubing the Tenere.

Although the pivot shaft needs to be lubed, I think a lot have missed the fact that the bike has only covered 2000 miles................

It's just a learning thing and you've probably had bikes with shifters that don't need the occasional disassembly. fwiw - The Honda VTX and old VMaxes needed it too.

Well for me this is a good case to blame 'Yammie'
It's done less than 2k miles!! Obviously never lubed at first build. It got through PDI. It was serviced early by supplying dealer at 250 miles and obviously not lubed. It was serviced again at my request at 900 miles and obviously not lubed. I'm sorry but you would just never expect this. I've ridden so many miles on so many other bikes in all conditions and never had this before. Personally I think it's piss poor, for a potential off-road bike to have this weakness. To me it just suggests the return spring is too weak. A stronger one would cope with a little resistance from the lever. And if Yamaha had more stringent control over procedures followed by dealers it could avoid these instances.
OK having said all that it's a great bike and I'm loving riding it even more now the gear changes are 'Honda' slick ::014::

I remember years ago having the same problem with my 2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200. It just wouldn't shift well, or past third gear. Something like that. It was unridable. It only had a couple of thousand miles on it as well. Anyway, took it to the shop expecting a transmission rebuild or who knew what, and yes, they greased the shift linkage and all was well again. Just saying, it can happen to any bike, anytime. First thing to check.

In all fairness, some Teneres never exhibited the issue for the first few years they were being discussed here.
Others, of course did and early on the remedy was discovered.

I'm betting it's more prone in some environmental conditions than others.

But the complaint is about par for the course for Tenere threads compared to the other make\model threads.

Totally agree. We and the UK get lots of wet crappy weather, while you Texicans stay dry.

I'll have you know this Texican lives in TROPICAL Texas, not the stereotype West Texas with its tumbleweeds. ::013::

Down here on the coast we can grow mold overnight. On anything. (we can't understand the modern mold panic. We probably eat the stuff unknowingly)

Just did mine on lubing the pivots. Both gear shift n brake pedal were dry. Sprayed on lithium based grease since I don't have at hand the lithium soap type.

Although I have not encountered shifting issues it does feel lighter to shift. Brake pedal cotter pin is like a puzzle to remove n install but glad to be entertained by Yamaha for a couple of minutes.
