Thought I might start a thread for any North Georgia folks that might want to get together to ride with other locals and check out what others have as accessories and what works and what doesn’t.

I live in the northern metro area and I recently (three weeks ago) came from a VStrom DL1000 to the Super Tenere. I met a lot of nice folks locally from a thread similar to this on the Stromtrooper.com user forum and I thought I might give it a try here.

So if any of the other North Georgia locals want to try to get a ride going post up.

No time for a "real" ride this weekend but I might try a quick coffee run up to Riders Hill tomorrow morning.

If I can make it happen I will be there between 9 and 9:30 and hang around for coffee an hour and then I need to get back home.

The next weekend I get a chance I want to make a Cherohala day run and will make a post as to my plans then.

I know there more locals wanting to ride... well, maybe not?

I sure miss n.ga mnts.
Hey joe-JOE, I’m not sure I can help you but the only excuse I need is the sun came up and it’s not pouring down rain. However for me I am blessed I live in an area where a good day ride for me of 350 to 400 miles can take me through North Georgia, East Tennessee, Western North Carolina and some of the best roads and scenery the south eastern U.S. has to offer. Therefore, I really don’t need much of an excuse.

Great ride today. Sunrise is at 6:30am and I left my house about 6:45am. Headed up Hwy400 to Hwy 115 into Cleveland, GA. Out Hwy 129 to 75 Alt and hit the Richard Russell Hwy over to Hwy 180 and across Wolf Pen Gap to Hwy 60 then over Woodys Gap and stopped at Riders Hill just north of Dahlonega, GA. Had a cup of coffee and talked bikes with some friends and then headed back and made it back home by 11:40am. 218 miles and every mile was nothing less than delightful!

The Super10 in its natural environment on top of Richard Russell Hwy. at about 8:30am this morning.

And a few of Riders Hill this morning while having coffee. And yes, it got crowded before I left.

I finally got over the 600 mile mark today so I can get it back to the dealer for it’s one and only service from them and then I’ll be ready for a day ride the next weekend I can get free.

BAhill,
I moved to Tampa one year ago from Flowery Branch, Ga
I'd always hang around Riders hill, run the loop 60,180, 129, helen, or head into the other states Dragon, Cherohala, BRP, you name it.
Spent 6 years living in N.Ga

Do you ride or are familiar with all the forest roads & trails in the area?
N.Ga would be an excellent choice to have a east coast Super Tenere rally every year, maybe in the Fall.

LOL yup, very familiar with the forest service roads but it looks like you are a bit more hard core than I would be with a 500+ lb Tenere but if I had a beater KLR I might be riding where the forest service road turns into a trail.

Yeah Joe-JOE, my parents moved us to Gainesville (from South Georgia) when I was in Jr High back in the 60’s and I spent my teens and twenty’s backpacking, canoeing N. GA, Tenn and N.C. for years. I also did some riding but at the time my motorcycle was my main mode of transportation and I didn’t want to trash it.

I moved to the metro Atlanta area to finish school and then got employment and never escaped. I got back into riding about ten years ago and the rest is history. Again I don’t go looking for pig trails but I want to be able to run forest service roads on whatever bike I ride. It takes me to places I’ve not seen or thought about in 30 something years. However I do on occasion find myself on a forest service road that is more work than I want on a big pig bike. Every time that happens I wish I had a KLR or a Honda 650. ::26::

Flip through the following link on the Stromtrooper.com forum and there are a few ride photos that you will remember or at least make you a little homesick. :'(

Ahhhh TWO, how I miss that place. It was always a part of the N. GA mountains and now it’s gone it just doesn’t seem to be the same.

I too had a fleeting thought about a an east coast Super Tenere rally and if I had the time I’d try to make something like that happen but as of late my time has been limited. Maybe next year if someone else doesn’t try to make something happen I’ll see what I might do. Next time you head this direction let me know and maybe we can get a ride together.

Hey guys, I live in the NE quadrant of Atlanta. I'd be interested in meeting up w/ other SupT owners and gruntin over mod's and add on's. I was in the mountains w/ a BMW rider all day on Sat the 26th. We went up to Clayton and hung a right on Warwoman then hit 28 N. towards Cashiers and Highlands. If you haven't ridden 28, you need to try it. I left home about 6:30, stopped for breakfast and made it up there around 8:30. Let me know a good weekend or weekday. I do need notice since I'm a father and husband. ::022::

Oh yes, Warwoman and Hwy 28 up to Highlands then out Hwy 64 for a quick photo at Bridal Veil Falls and then back to 106 and 441 south then back toward home is a good loop for a day ride for me. You did stop by Bridal Veil Falls didn’t you?

Also, hwy 28 gets better and better north of Franklin headed toward Bryson City and the Nantahala Gorge.

Keep an eye on this thread Jack. The weather forcast for Saturday is sunny and 81 degrees and if that holds true and I can free up a day to ride on Saturday then I’m riding. Before long when the temps start hitting the mid and upper 90’s I usually make early morning runs and back before the heat of the day so I don’t want to miss out on an 80 degree day if I can help it.

You live on the other side of the world (metro area) from me but if nothing else we can maybe meet at Riders Hill and run some of North Georgia and talk all things Tenere. LOL

Anyone want to suggest a day 2 - 3 weeks out? Looks like we're all on the same page here. Bahill has the right idea I think. Meet up ~Dalonega. He seems to know the routes well so we can choose one and rid, ride, ride. I'm open to week days too.

Hey ogre, just throw up a post when you get back when you want to ride and see who can make it. Although after your post about “giving the track bikes a good workout” now I might be a little worried I’ll be able to keep up with you.

Look forward to meeting you on a ride one day! Are you located where Riders Hill is a convenient meeting place for you?

Sorry Saturday is not good for you tenerejack but we’ll make it on another day I’m sure.

The weather forecast still looks good for Saturday. Now if I can only keep my schedule opened I’ll be good to go.

Will do. I'm in Alpharetta so Riders Hill is quite convenient. Don't worry about keeping up. I go to the track to go fast. I just cruise around in the hills. Too many unknowns on the streets for going fast. Besides, I like to see the scenery when riding in the hills :)

Great orge! I go for the "ride" and not for the "race" also.

We are close... I'm near Hwy92 and Sandy Plains.

Enjoy your track days and I hope you can make it on a ride someday soon.

Looks like there are a couple of others from the VStrom forum that might join the ride this weekend.

I grew up just off Hwy 92 and Bowen Rd. Just down the road from Sandy Plains.
Oh yeah, I’m in Jefferson Township just down the road. I’m sure you know where it is then. Been here for about 10 years and I enjoy the trees and wildlife… deer, fox, turkeys, hawks, owls, etc that roam around and it’s nice and quite back in here.

Just in case there are some locals that have been lurking and might want to ride Saturday the following are the specifics.

Saturday, June 2nd, Meeting at the RaceTrac 7499 Georgia 92, Woodstock, GA.; See map link below;

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1079&bih=613&wrapid=tlif133849718538510&q=7499+Georgia+92,+Woodstock,+GA&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x88f56bac9049ec05:0x85a3471338fef4b7,7499+Georgia+92,+Woodstock,+GA+30189&gl=us&ei=r9jHT53VMYyK8QSX8ZSyDw&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CAgQ8gEwAA

The time and meeting place was chosen because we have one coming from Newnan and another coming from the Doraville area but most of the folks riding are fairly convenient to I575 and 92.

Kickstands up at 8:30am headed north.

There looks to be at least 3 to 6 other riders and myself that either have definite plans to go or want to go if they can make it work out.

No dirt or forest service roads. I don’t have a bash plate yet and at least one ST1300 and possibility another are planning on riding.

No tentative route other than head north. Specific route to be determined at the meeting place.

It’s really too early for me to confirm a Saturday ride now but the long rang forecast says the highs will be in the mid 80’s and I hate to pass up a day this time of year that’s cooler than the 90’s. I’m working toward riding up to the Cherohala Skyway by way of I575 north to Blue Ridge and then up to Tellico Plains and over the Skyway to Robbinsville and back by way of Andrews, Murphy back into Blue Ridge then the slog back down I575 home.

I believe I know of a couple of others (non Tenere owners) that might be interested also but I won’t know for sure if I can make it until later this week. Depending on the groups desires possible detours up to Buck Bald, Bald River Falls, Stewart House, etc.

Any local Tenere owners interested in trying to make this ride???

This past Saturday was a perfect day to ride and me and two others just rode around North Georgia for about 230 miles. No other Tenere’s other than mine but had one ST1300 and a VStrom DL1000 join in the ride.

Just a couple of photos to show how nice the weather was on Saturday…
