I traveled 500 miles last week on a two day trip where temps were from 86F to 98F.
When the bike was moving the water temp would be right at 170F to 175F at 68ish MPH. But when stopped the water temp would get up to 221F where the fan would come on and drop it back to the 210 range before going off. All seems fine to me, a bit hotter than I'd like with respect to the stopped bike temps but I'm sure it is fine.

Yamaha's fan and radiator mounting position is pretty clever. It sticks out to the side of the bike just enough that the hot air exhaust misses your leg. Move your leg over a couple of inches, or if you have large thighs, then your left leg is going to get cooked. Seems for those with that trouble a small air deflector would help.
