Good afternoon, folks! I've been lurking a bit, thought I'd check in.

Bought a 2012 Super Tenere (blue) back in November after hemming-n-hawing for most of the summer. Had been on a Wee-Strom since 2004, which has since been hand-me-down'ed to The Missus after putting some Kuoba links on it. I absolutely loved that Strom but we needed something more/better/bigger/faster for those two-up occasions. Bought the Sten mostly for commuting, weekend trips, and the occasional "Hey, we got a week off!" kinda' thing. I predominantly ride pavement but dirt roads don't faze me. (I won't be Alpine Loop-ing with it, though...) Twisties are always fun but I like big-sky/big-view stuff, too.

The Sten has been only lightly farkled. Just some SW Motech racks for my old Givi Monokey cases, a Yamaha tank bag, a Cee Bailey windscreen, and wiring for my Gerbing gloves.

I work in software/electronics so sparks don't scare me -- but "moving parts" give me the wiggins! Expect stupid questions like, "Should it be making that noise?"

I see there's a Colorado check-in thread. I'll see what mischief I can get into over there.

Well, ciao for now and thanx for having me!

Yeah, I saw that. Bummer is, I promised a friend I'd help him with his annual gathering that weekend. :( I've been warned that if I back-out, my Y chromosome is forfeit. Rain check for 2014?

Ha! Nope, no fetish.

About 15 years ago I took a "sabbatical" from a well-paying engineering career to start a custom cabinetry shop. We always had a lot of work and happy customers but margins were tight and it was hard to make ends meet. After two years of living right at the poverty line, I returned to those familiar bytes and electrons -- and comfortably making the mortgage payment! Back when I ended each day covered in sawdust, a couple of my old engineering buddies took to calling me The Cabinet Man and it kinda' stuck. Seemed as good a screen name as anything else.

And now you know the rest of the story...

Cheers!

Welcome aboard Scott! Did you get your SuperT from Apex or RMCP?

I bought the Sten from Apex. I just like their . . . . . . . . . . 'vibe' better than RMCP. (I admit that's not much to go on when differentiating shops, but there it is...) And Apex is closer to home/work. I'm lazy like that!

At this point I'd be happy to get the Sten on any road! The Missus and I managed to sneak out for a ride on 01/06 when the temps "soared" above 40F. (I have electrics but she doesn't so we kept it short.) Now it's the iced-over roads that's keeping the bikes in the garage. Oof dah...

A few years back, I had the Strom in-n-around St Elmo, riding it up to (what remains of) Hancock at one point. The road was in pretty bad shape but certainly not something I'd have shied away from in my dirt bike days. But the Strom just wasn't happy with the occasional unavoidable pot-hole. That's when I learned that it was more of a road bike than an off-road bike. I'm hoping that the Sten is more sure-footed in that kinda' thing than the Strom was.

That said, I have no intentions of pushing limits with the Sten off-road. Cottonwood Pass? Certainly. Hagerman Pass? Probably. Tincup Pass? Maybe. Hancock Pass? Doubtful. Iron Chest Mine? Not in this lifetime! Call me chicken (mortal?) but I'd prefer something more "task specific" for the tougher stuff. The Missus cannot know, but I've developed a hankering for something more aggressive -- something KTM-ish or thereabouts -- for that kind of riding. I haven't paid attention to the dirt bike market for decades so I don't know what all the cool kids are riding these days. I had a Polaris quad a few years back and quickly learned to hate it. One too many "lines" to pick to get thru gnarly terrain. (Does anyone even use the word 'gnarly' anymore?) So, yeah, something I can crash and drop and run into trees without shedding too many tears. Something . . . . . . . just not the Sten.

But, yes, spring/summer. Soon. Please?!?!
