I have the RKA tank bag as well, but it currently only holds my GPS,with the plan having been to add a Ham radio for both voice and APRS. For my iPhone, I have a RAM X-Grip, which I use both on the bike and in the truck. On the bike, I picked up a RAM ball that fits under the mirror (I actually have on of these on each side), and use the stock cigarette plug to charge the phone (I have a coil style cable that allows for the movement of the bars).

I just put my phone in my jacket pocket and wait until I stop to see if I have any messages or missed calls. I do keep a phone charger in my tank bag or pannier just in case I need it.

At some point in the future I will go from my old school maps and get a GPS (but keep the maps), and then hopefully a bluetooth headset. So, I guess I will have to keep an eye on this thread for good ideas.

By the way, I haven't taken this with me yet on a ride but I do have a small square (4" x 4") solar charger that will fully charge my iPhone one time. Has anyone used one of these on a long ride or camping trip? I am not sure if it is worth taking along due to the power on the bike and then readily available electricity in most places.

My, what a helpful observation, but should you be taking time away from your efforts to solve the famine in Darfur to comment on something as mundane as a motorcycle forum? Obviously, since you're so smugly dismissive of a simple question asked by a member, your time must be totally committed to only contemplating lofty issues of high import.

RCinNC thanks for taking up for me bro! But

MrVvrroomm no sure what you meant by that "First world problem" comment
and

Andylaser, were you talking to me? As I said before, I never touch my phone, try to talk or text while riding, NEVER! As I said earlier, sometimes when I leave the house I realize my phone is abt dead. So, I like to let it be charging while I am riding. That way when I DO get to where I am going, I CAN talk or text. I was just asking a simple question dude. And as I said, on my FJ-09 there was a metal slot right behind the windshield that my Iphone fit in perfectly. Nothing like that on the SupTen.

Cool! I will probably mount something on that bar behind the windscreen. I don't ever look at it, just want to be able to charge it. I have a tank bag, but use mainly in winter to store extra gloves, head gear, etc. But perhaps I will start using it again ad put the phone in the phone pocket on top of it. It is a new 2015 bike with a red tank and I worry about scratching the paint job. With my charcoal colored matt finished tank on my FJ-09 I did not have to worry about that. Up until I bought some Tankslapperz film to cover my tank, I used to use a type of rubberized shelf liner under my tank bag, and it kept my tank from getting scratched. You can get a roll of it at places like Wal Mart for pretty cheap. It looks like a fine mesh black rubber net.

+1 for the RAM X-Grip.
Power is from a USB charger on a SAE connector, which can then also be used for the air pump or for a battery tender.

The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5 and is used offline as my GPS since losing the Montana. Works fine.

Another thought for you is to buy one of the rechargeable battery packs, like the ones at Costco. Plug it in and put both into your tank bag, or even pocket. I have done that. No messing with wiring, and it gets the job done.

Oh yeah, I have a Mophie water proof case with battery back up, but since I have the RAM mount and a USB on my dash I don't have to use it. But the waterproof case keeps my phone safe.
