Just left on Saturday the 18th on an epic Alaska trip and on the 1st day I lost the use of my cruise control and the rear brake lights do not work. When I press the cruise button the amber light just blinks. Checked the fuses and they looked good so I am wondering if anyone knows what the problem could possibly be.

There's a couple of circuits from the rear brake pedal switch, I'd be looking there first, have you adjust the pedal recently?

The full cruise control system is described in the Owner's Manual - for my 2014 ES it is 3-7 to 3-10. Other models may differ, just check your index.

The system has a Self-diagnosis device. When the system indicator light flashes, this suggests the diagnostics has seen an irregularity. I assume you are not also seeing the display showing an error code too?

Most times the problem seems to be the rear brake light switch, situated behind the right footrest heel plate. Hence yoyo's suggestion. Wierd things can happen with the switch, which sends power to the rear brake lights & talks to the cruise system. It is well worth dropping the heel plate off & checking the switch for any obvious damage, as well as checking the wiring/connectors. It is always possible that road debris has damaged the switch/wiring too.

Aside from that, there are several other possibilities, but let's have you look at the most likely source first

I had brake light issues on my '12. no cruise so can't help there. but my issue was the handlebar brake switch , foot brake switch would light up the rear but front would not...got a new switch , about 3 min to change out , all fixed...use a jumper wire across connection it should light up the rear , then you will know if its the switch...

Thanks for all the replays it ended up being a blown fuse for the cruise control. All fixed now and still traveling thru Alaska and British Columbia
