No Headlights???

My headlight have stopped working. No main lights and no side lights. I've searched for the answer to my issue but have not found one. Headlight mod was carried out 2012/14 bike. Bulbs do not seem to be blown, fuse looks okay and headlight relay seems to be working. The bike blow both headlight bulbs two weeks ago, had them replaced, seemed okay but now....nothing.

Could be this by "greg the pole" but recall was carried out ???

"But, you say that none of your lights work. The harness shares the negative wire for all lights (park, main, shutter etc). There is no high beam light, as the bulb is H7 single filament. The shutter simply blocks half the light on low, and opens for high beam. If your negative wire is compromised, you don't have a complete circuit".

Any ideas?

had them replaced
That raises a red flag for me.

Some dealers/techs will remove the headlight assembly from the front, rather than try and get to the bulbs from behind. It's nearly as fast. I'd be checking that your wiring harness is fully plugged in, AND swapping in a known good bulb myself to see what happens.

They probably put in bad quality bulbs, and both are bad again. Like Eric said, swap in a new bulb and see if it lights. If not, a multimeter will be needed to trace down where voltage is lost. It's pretty much 12v through the ignition switch, through the headlight fuse to the relay, which is turned on by the ECU.

Sounds like you need to get the harness done again.
I wouldn't go down that road unless the headlight bulb plugs are melted. This is more likely something simple. Unplugged harness, bad ground connection or just a dead relay.

Even a simple and cheap test light will help back track the problem.

As mentioned previously, I would check the connections first. There is a bunch that run behind the right hand side upper panel, above ECU, that go into a rubber boot, mine was a little loose in there which knocked out all my headlights, but not my tail lights.....

As Eric was saying change the bulbs, I had that happen three years ago .

Start with a voltmeter - even a real cheapie. See where you are getting 12V and where you have continuity to the ground terminal of the battery. Something has come apart or shorted.

Striped side of bike.

Wiggled all till I found the loose connector.

Couldn't for love or money get the loose connector to make a good contact.

Made up a y piece to replace the doggy connector.

Job done...but I'm not happy!!!

Thanks for all your help, I'll be on to Yamaha tomorrow

Curious as to the connector that was loose. Was this something incorrectly done by the dealer, or Yamaha itself?

It was the negative wire, a very small gauge wire to a double bullet type connector on the main loom, so not on the headlight side but at the joint!!! Not very impressed with the wiring, non of my crimp connectors were small enough to fit well. The double bullet push on crimp connector is made of...blomanje...very soft and impossible for it to hold its shape. I have photos but had difficulties uploading them...sorry, can email if you like.

Good on it, thanks. With that description, I know what you are talking about. Had not heard of that particular issue.

Thanks
