Yesterday (September 1, 2013) I went for a very scenic ride with two friends, one on a Triumph Tiger Explorer, and the other on a Suzuki V-Strom, to Port Dover, Ontario, host town to the famous Friday the Thirteenth gatherings. On the outskirts of town, there is an enormous home under construction on the shore of Lake Erie which is rumoured to be owned by Sir Elton John. Can't confirm that, but whoever does own it must have a few bucks in the bank!

Cheers,

Bruce

It's pretty cool. Been here 18 years and still loving it.
Have a cottage in the Ottawa Valley and come back every August with the family. You can't Ontario cottage country (okay, maybe the bugs are a downside but after a few beer ... who cares! ). Also a bit partial to Ontario women. Imported one out here!

Used to love cruising around Algonquin Park. So, what would you say are some of the best twisties in Ontario?
Also, what does your buddy think of his Tiger?

If you are ever out here...

It's difficult to find nice twisties in southern Ontario. Some of the secondary roads in central Ontario north and east of Toronto are pretty good though. You are obviously familiar with the roads in the Algonquin Park area. they are pretty spectacular too.

My buddy liked his Tiger until it quit on him somewhere on the Great Plains after riding through a heavy rainstorm. He thinks water got into the electrical system somewhere. It started again after about 30 minutes and has been fine since, but he has lost a lot of confidence in it. No error codes were shown when it was put on the diagnostic afterward.

Cheers,

Bruce

I grew up in Kingston, but spent a lot of time at U. of Goo. Our cottage is in the Pembroke area. Would love to get the ST back there. Seems like some fun roads in he Dorset to Kingston to Pembroke triangle.
An adventure bike that can't take getting wet??? How do you spell: "poser"/

Hey, with the advent of all the microbrews, especially out in the US Pacific Northwest, us Canucks can't lambaste Americans for their crappy beer anymore. There are some really good brews out here. ::003::

Sam, your assessment of the Tiger is very much in line with what my buddy said: "This is an adventure bike, and I can't take it out in the rain?" I think he is regretting now that he didn't opt for a Super Tenere at the time. We bought our bikes from the same dealer, a multi-line dealership that sells Yamaha, Suzuki, Triumph, Victory, Kawasaki, and Ducati.

You are right about the roads in the Pembroke/Dorset/Kingston area. There is a plethora of back roads around there that would be ideal for the ST.

I'm with you on the micro-brewery concept. It is great to see them popping up everywhere!
