Just read that it is doing a big Adventure bike test..... and the Super Tenere is included ???
Absolutely.yoyo said:I've not had my S10 long and I love it but it's never going to do well in group tests, it needs to be compared to the Explorer and GS but it's a bike you have to ride for a while to get to like it, I wasn't keen when I test rode it but I'd read enough to know it gets better the more you ride it. I'm sure they include it to make the others look good.

Hmm now where can I find a dealer that does that deal, 2 ton of chocolate.........Daviedevs said:I think we all know how the test will go.
Sporty adventure bikes with 160BHP will win. Always do.
Even if the S10 came with a lifetime supply of free beer, 2 tons of chocolate and a leather clad Kylie smothered in baby oil, it still wouldnt win!
I love my S10, the more i ride it the more i love it.

I've just read the review and it's pretty positive overall. Yes, the more powerful, trinkety bikes get lots of praise but equally the S10 gets plenty for its comfort, dependability and build quality. They weren't too happy with the handling and it's off road ability but according to one of the testers 'it feels like you could drain the oil, run it on 50 octane dishwater , fill the suspension with custard and it'd still tramp on regardless'. They also went on to say 'Viewed objectively with a serious road tester head on the Yam isn't close to being the best bike but ranked in the order in which we'd buy them with our own money the S10 is second on the list'. The Africa Twin was ahead of it and the BMW, Ducati, KTM, Triumph and Suzuki behind it. It goes on to score 8 out of 10 with the AT scoring 10 out of 10, the BMW and Ducati getting 9 out of 10, The S10 and KTM getting 8 out of 10, the Triumph getting 7 out of 10 and the Suzuki bringing up the rear with 6 out of 10.
In the verdict they said 'The Yamaha, BMW and Ducati are worlds apart, but hard to split. The Yamaha lacks wow, pace and extras but is hard to beat as a robust, comfy distance tool (kind to pillions too). The Africa Twin wins on objective score and the one they'd like to own the most...
Well said. My thoughts were the same when I first saw it in person. Loved the looks but I thought it was a huge pig of a bike. This and other forms kept me interested till I demo'd one. Also liked the new V2 Strom a lot but it was not as well done. When I honestly thought about what I needed and wanted for a new bike the answer became clear. My FZ1 had big horsepower but it could only be enjoyed at certain times and places. I enjoy everything about my S10 as soon as the wheels are rolling. As much as I liked it when I got it, it keep liking it more as I ride it.mrpete64 said:I remembering looking/sitting on this bike at Javitt's Center,in New York, thinking what a big pig. I will NEVER own one of these. A few years later, after buying a Suzuki Vstrom 650 which I liked a lot, I decided to go ride the new Vstrom1000. Sitting there was the new 2014 ES. I sat on it and had the same thoughts...big...heavy...not for me. The dealer told me to take it on a nice long ride and see if I might be interested. So, I did! Driving up some two lane roads to Lake George, New York, and then down the Northway, which had been voted one of the most beautiful highways in the U.S. something happened. I could not believe how much I loved this bike. I then took out the new Vstrom 1000. Took the same exact route. Nice bike...but..the ES kept going through my mind.
I have owned four BMW's prior to this...a nice Triumph 1050, a '08 KLR which I drove 29,000 miles...and probably a few other bikes I forgot about, I'm getting old! Anyway....I traded in my Vstrom and bought the new 2014 ES. I got 12,000+ mile on it and could not be happier with this bike. It is not an off road bike, I have a 701 Husky for that, and that is even too heavy for "real" dirt, but I enjoy the hell out of my Tenere. I was going to buy the new BMW water head GS but could not justify the cost...and the up keep costs.
I will drive it to California from New York this year and back via the south unless it is all burned up!
Now..getting to the reviews on this bike...Who "really" cares. I am sure, if Yamaha wanted, they could make this bike with a lot more horsepower. Apparently, that is what sells bikes. I like the "stone cold" reliability of this bike. Turn the key..hit the start button...and not worry if you will have to tow it. In the sixties I was "thrilled" with a 18 hp bike. I guess I am getting old.
The "real" test of a bike, in my opinion, is will it get me home with 98,872 miles on it...like a Goldwing! I think that my ES will.
Enjoy the published review. I am sure whomever spends the most on ads in the magazine will win?? I'm now going out for a ride to Cooperstown, New York, to have a nice breakfast. It is a beautiful day in upstate New York...no heat...no rain...and plenty of sun.
