Hey all, from right here next the dragon and the other great riding areas. I was wondering if there is a frequently asked question section? I'm looking into a 2012 S10 and wondering what I need to look for or problem areas. been interested since they became available and now looks like a good time to bite the bullet.
Thanks all!

For the 2012 (gen 1 models) you might wish to check if the headlight sub-harness has been upgraded and if the CCT is still fine. To my mind, these are the two most important things to check, but there could be others.

The BMW Recovery Vehicle is relatively bullet proof. The two vulnerable points are the oil sump plate and the radiator fan. Plenty of skid plates and side bars to protect those. At higher mileage, the cam chain tensioner (CCT) ought to be replaced with one from a Gen2 bike or a manual one. Some early bikes had a vibration issue from the early clutch baskets, which again can be replaced with Gen2 parts(2014+). Headlight harness was probably done on the recall.

As Lizard wrote, the search function works for everything else.

Try to get a cold start with the bike; no loud clatter on start, (and I mean a loud TACK TACK TACK), just chatter is good to go. Let it warm up to 220; does the fan come on, good to go. If you can see the motor's belly pan, no welds, perfect. ::008::
Run the vin# through the system to check on the harness, and possibly the twisted o-ring (limited numbers there).

Thanks all. Yes, I searched, but only for a FAQ page. Nothing came up. Most forums have them that's why I asked. When y'all say "High Mileage" what is considered High for these? I know most bikes can go a long time if properly maintained. I put almost 40,000 miles on an 04 Hayabusa before I ran out of talent in a corner! ::025::
I will dig around some more when I have a preferred victim..

Hello from Portugal.

I searched all over the net (adv forums, etc) for more then 3 months and I came to the conclusion that the s10 is one the most reliable machines out there (if not "The" most). That's why a got married with my s10 a couple of weeks ago ::025::. Left the store with the givi side bars installed (has I do everytime I get a new bike) and intent to install the oem (or swmotech, givi etc) skid plate soon, to prevent any damage to the two most vulnerable parts of the bike: the radiator fan and the oil filter. I know a couple of riders with s10 and never heard them complain....
