I seem to test my crash bars on a regular basis. Best advice I can give, especially for the low/no speed drops, is that once she gets to the point of no return just get the hell out of the way and let her go down. You're not going to stop the nap and you will very likely get hurt trying. If she decides to pounce on your leg, you're going to come out on the losing end.

Correct-Once it gets leaned over too far-Save your legs and your shoulders/back.

Off road, more times then I want to say. On road, the first, and so far only time was several months ago. Stupid place on a road to attempt a u-turn. Uphill to downhill, off camber. It was the only time any damage, as I busted a foot peg on that one.

I did the same and bent the shifter. I took a big ass screw driver and bent it back. I felt really dumb after but no one saw, lol

So far in 60,000+ miles my Tenere has only been laying on its side once, happened the second day I owned the 2013, forgot to put garage door opener in tank bag so after driving out of the garage needed to get off bike to push button to close door, it was early spring and the frost had just come out of the ground, I thought it would still be solid enough to hold the bike up for the few seconds it would take to hit the button and get back to the bike but nope over it went, absolutely no damage, but wow the Tenere being so tall is a lot harder to pickup than my Goldwing that weighs over 100 pounds more, the center of gravity on a Goldwing is much lower than a Tenere.

I was beginning to wonder if I bought the right bike but after reading all your comments I know I did all right. It did freak me out a little bit when I dropped it

Looking at the pictures there is a theme to the off road drops. Smooth street tires!!

With my wife riding a Tenere for 7 years, between the two of us, I've picked up a Tenere plenty times. It really sucks when they drop themselves. I've had the wind blow mine off the kickstand once, and also had an old lady back into it knocking it to the ground and breaking stuff.

Whether it happened on the street, driveway, backyard, or parking lot, it's always nice to have people around to help pick it up. My wife dropped next to me on the street one time, and before I could get parked, two guys picked it up. She was embarrassed, I was grateful.

I was riding with a newbie on his brand new 1984 600 ninja. We stopped at a light side by side. He fell over into my 84 RZ 350 and burned the crap out of his shoulder on my motor and expansion chamber. I kicked him in the helmet and told him to pick it up worm. Broke his blinker and scratched it up. The good ole days. Karma came back to get me. Fell over on the porch and broke my shieid off scraped mirror down wallIMG_0024[1].JPG

If she doesn't already have them, put some good crash bars and skid plate on her (plenty of threads), and she will take a lot of abuse without any damage, other then maybe a little paint on the bars.

Went through a course on the KZ. It had floorboards.... My turning diameter kept getting smaller, and smaller, until a floorboard stuck in the pavement. I ended up stepping off of the bike....backwards....and took the windscreen off....three times. BUT, I never hit the ground. Those KZs were built like tanks; pick them back up....clear the carbs....and rock on.
