About to pick up a well-cared-for '22 with 15K miles on it that is completely stock. Riding from SoCal to LV in Nevada right after pickup. I'm moving on from my '18 V-Strom 1K XT, a truly great bike (which you can see on EternalGarage.com), but not quite what I need for 500-mile+/day trips, what I'm doing more of now. I have plans for maintenance (all fluids, pads) so I can start from scratch, and upgrades once I get some saddle time. Any "must-do" suggestions? Thanks!

Welcome! SoCal to NV is a ride around the block for the S10. During the height of the plague, I did central KY to Chicago to Santa Monica (Rt 66) to Vegas and back to KY without breaking a sweat.
That...is a ride! This one's only about five hours, though I have to go through a pass that just might dip into the 30s. I'm getting prepared to regret not buying riding gear that plugs in. But, a ride is a ride! Really looking forward to getting to know the S10.

Welcome from metro Seattle and congrats on the new (to you) '22! Any must-do's? Ride it...and then determine what's needed to make it yours.

Good luck and enjoy!

WELCOME.. Eternalgarage ..I was fortunate to ride in NV a few days around Death Valley. An amazing experience…I noted a number of automobile manufactures around the World do summer towing and sustained high speed testing of their products. I soon discovered that in DV speed limits were optional. Great fun to ride way over 100 mph and mingle and speak with the auto engineers at dinner driving the test mules. The cars only had one seat and multiple laptops scatter all over the floor collecting test data.

That's a ride to remember! Perfect.

I did a trip from Vegas to Yosemite to SF Bay Area and back this last September (on my now-for-sale V-Strom 1K). That was one of the best rides I've taken. The variations in the landscape and weather was pretty epic, and so were the roads. Straight, uninhabited roads for miles, and countless winding two-lanes and all-too-temping dirt roads that needed some exploring. Looking forward to the next one on the ST!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! Trip from LA to LV was good. Cruised mostly at 80, got just under 50mpg average. No issues with trucks and sidewinds; super stable. I put wind diverters on which helped quiet the ride just enough.

But, the experience at the dealer I bought the bike from (Wheels In Motion in Chatsworth, CA) was not good. Way too many eff-ups and broken promises. It wasn't ready, ws missing things, and I spent more than 3 hours there. And then couldn't register it because one of their geniuses forgot to sign the previous owner's title. Cost me nearly seven hours of dicking around. No more dealers for me again. I don't care how tempting.

Looking ahead, it'll get a full fluids change and tire rebalancing. Thinking about an ECU flash, which worked total magic on my V-Strom. I heard the results are pretty much the same on the STs. Not looking for more power (though that's always welcome), but better overall power delivery and smoothness. Probably a better air filter, but keep the stock can (which I actually like).

Sounds a bit like the trip when I bought mine & ride it back from Adelaide over a weekend.
It was funny to have Siri giving directions through my helmet saying: “turn left & go straight for 175 kilometres”
