Hi All,

I am a "real" newbie as the Super Tenere is my first motorcycle. I have spent a fare amount of time messing around on dirt bikes (friends and family owned) so I am not completely bike illiterate, but it has been a few years (ok...at least 20). By the time I had enough money to buy a bike of my own I also had (and still have) a wife that was not too keen on the idea.

I am an engineer in the automotive industry and for the past few years we have been on international assignment in Turin Italy. While living in Italy I absolutely fell in love with the BMW GS's. As an avid mountain biker and backpacker I have always been partial to the idea of an adventure bike. In Turin it seemed like there was a GS on every other street corner. Due to residency restrictions and the general nightmare that is Italian traffic I did not purchase a beemer in Italy. We repatriated this spring and in the summer I started shopping in earnest. I knew I wanted the BMW but as an anal engineer I still had to do my research. Much to my chagrin, after countless reviews and researching the various forums I kept coming back to the S10 as the best overall bike in the class.

After taking a motorcycle safety course (with my wife) I picked up a 2013 (gray) S10 the last weekend of September. Unfortunately, due to poorly timed business trips and Michigan weather I only racked up 750 miles before putting her up for the winter. Given my minimal motorcycle experience I am not the most qualified to provide a thorough review, however I find the S10 to be an incredible machine. I was a little apprehensive about buying a 1200 as a first bike, but starting out in "T" mode made the power delivery very manageable. The balance and rider position also make it relatively nimble despite the weight. Overall I am extremely happy with the bike and I am looking forward to learning from the more experienced riders on this forum.

Welcome,
I'm a fellow Michigander living in Dearborn and working for one of the Big Three as well. I'm very familiar with your neck of the wood as I have a place on Rush Lake in Pinckney. We spend a lot of time there in the summer. I'm new to the S10 also, got mine in September. I belong to a group of riders through work. We do weekly dinner rides and try to get out on multi day rides at least once a month. I'm always looking for people to ride with so if you want some company keep me posted. You're always welcome to join us on our rides as well.

Thanks J.A.P.

I will definitely take you up on that once we thaw out a bit.

Welcome on, Mully .. I almost missed you. Sorry about that. I have the same bike … 2013 Gray. Ain't no better. Prepare to be extremely pleased. It won't take you long to feel totally comfortable. It's a friendly bike. Just proceed slowly with caution. Small steps. Taking that course was an excellent idea. ::004:: to the Forum. R. ::022::

Thanks howier... That sounds great, too bad we have a few months to wait.

Congrats on the Tenere Mully. And for finally joining the forum too.

My advice is to get out there a do 750 miles again. But in 1 DAY! :)

Then again. And again. (and take her with ya)

Sounds like great advice snakebitten. What I didn't mention in my intro was how I convinced my wife to let me buy the S10. I bought her a bike too , so she'll be going along on some of those 750/day rides.
