Quick intro. 59 yo. Just got back to bikes late in 2013 after a 32 year hiatus. I've got a Honda NC700X right now. It gets incredible mpg. The mpg of the S10 is a consideration but not the final straw. The NC will do 75-80 all day but there's not much punch left when passing . The NC and the S10 are both doing 80 mph @ 4000rpm. The NC's redline is around 6,200. From what I've read here , the S10 redline is higher - more like 7,000 (?)
So, at 4000 rpm is the S10 not as strained as the NC? I need a bike to do 600+ miles a day w/o hurting.
The prospect is a '12 w/ 9,000 miles for 9,100 otd.
What think ye, good peoples?

Re: maybe joining the rank and file...tomorrow

Welcome aboard. We have a number of Iron Buts here who do a lot more than 600 in a day. The search function works well on this forum, so see what you can find about seats, windshields, auxiliary power, luggage, hydration, etc.

The Tenere is a LOT more solid on the highway than the 700 you are coming off of. 4,000 rpm is a fast highway number and the bike has a lot left at that point.

Price sounds fair for the miles, depending on condition and accessories of course.

500-600 mile days on the S-10 are no sweat. I've done several.

Planning 900 miles home from Romney next Sunday! I do have Monday off, but would prefer to keep the vacation day.

Re: maybe joining the rank and file...tomorrow

Thanks for the replies, guys. I've done almost 700 on the NC in a day but was pretty beat up by the end. I have a MadStad on it now which helps enormously.
I was asking about the 4,000 rpm mark because both the S10 and NC have a 270° crank
The NC is smooth as a smooth thing at 4,000 rpm.

That test ride will be tomorrow if the 50/50 rain chance is in my favor. It surely is a beautiful bike. I've already read about the timing chain tensioner problems so will keep my ears open for that on first crank.
Anything else I need to be aware of or ask?

Hmmm guess I am old. I have never found a bike that after a 600 mile day I was hurting. But then I just got my first Tenere and haven't had the opportunity to run long distance yet. Time will tell

::004:: from the UK. You can do an awful lot worse than an S10, but you will struggle to find better ::008::

Never heard from the dealer today. Went to my credit union today. They can give a better rate . I'll check with the dealer tomorrow to see if the S10 is still there (didn't see it outside today).
Been checking out Cycle Trader . There's a few decent deals there.
I do think I've got the bug.....

Done a few 500 mile days just fine. I think being stuck in that position for too long will get t anyone, but you shouldn't feel beat up on the Tenere, least I don't. I do use a sheepskin pad n my seat though.

Redline is irrelevent as your power on the s10 is down low, but plenty of power left to pass people at highway speeds.

I drove my ES from Bowling Green, KY, to my house in upstate NY. About 950 miles in one shot. Easy bike to ride with cruise..electronic suspension..and my tunes!

Good luck. I found a lot of the bikes advertised on Cycle Trader were non-existent. Call the dealer.. "Oh Ya, we don't have it anymore."

Last night, happened to me. A great deal not too far. I would have bussed over and rode it home. Sorry, sold two weeks ago.....

I'm guessing ES stands for electronic suspension?
Indeed it does. The other great thing about this bike is it so roomy, it's easy to change positions while riding, and on longer rides, I've been known to stand up on the pegs for a bit of a stretch.

Well, looks like I have the main piece of equipment to join the club!
Did all the paperwork and drove it home today!
I'll be seeing you on the board with adventures to come. First big one is June 6-15 to the Grand Canyon

Thanks for the reminder Shrek . My computer died and all I have is a Nexus 7 tablet. I don't know how to put pics on a website with it yet. It's pretty much bone stock . It does have a Yamaha top box and heated grips. It's that real fast blue color..... ::012::
