Some ride because they can't not ride.
::021::Well, I pulled the trigger on a new 2013, white Super Tenere a few days ago, and I am brand new to this forum. I live in Caldwell (southern) Idaho, and I am always looking for riding partners who are low-key, don't ride drunk, and don't talk politics. I don't fault others for drinking, but I learned the hard way that it's not for me, and I have over six years sober now and a much better life. I bought the Super Ten to go along with my 2012 Concours because the Connie is a little fat and low for off-road, because Idaho just has too many cool places to ride that involve a little dirt, and because I love camping. I also bought it to teach my 24 year old son to ride. I know the common advice is to start on a smaller bike, and he will on a borrowed one. But, I'm not going to do what I did when I was learning and buy a bike I'll be bored with in 6 months. I can't think of a better riding partner than my son. I bought a cruiser as my first bike about 7 years ago, thinking that's what I wanted. But, even the larger one that replaced it was just boring, and I don't care how many windscreens and bags you put on a cruiser, it's still not a highway bike. So, I moved to sport touring bikes with my first Connie, which is now replaced by a new one. With the Connie, I get speed and luxury. With the S10, I get off-road and camping in places I can't otherwise get to. Some don't care about motorcycles, some ride for fun or just transportation. I ride because it gives me happiness and peace, and I just plain can't not ride. I get downright grumpy if I don't ride almost every day. I ride all year as long as the roads aren't icy. My coldest ride yet is 19 degrees for about 30 miles on my Connie, but she has heated grips. I also get to ride about 140 miles for work every Thursday, which just breaks my heart. I am an ATTGATT rider. I have a lot of experience with different kinds and brands of gear, and now I only buy high-end stuff, used or on Ebay when I can. The cheaper stuff is just not worth it. If you're in Idaho or traveling through and need a place to crash on your way, message me. Maybe we can go for a ride some time. I'm also interested in small group ADV trips, and the riders in Idaho don't seem to be super organized. Probably an Idaho thing. We are an independent bunch.
