I am a new 2013 Tenere owner. I am in the process of breaking it in and setting it up like I want it. So far, I have stock windscreen on a Madstad bracket. I raised the handlebars 30mm. And I have ordered the OEM wind deflectors.

I had a Kaoko Throttle lock on order, but found out it was back ordered for two weeks and decided to ask the group...Is there anything better on the market? Does the Kaoko fit and work well on the Tenere?

I had one previously on my VStrom 100 and it was indispensable on long rides.

Please advise of personal experiences with the Kaoko or other throttle lock devices...

I assume there is also a replacement wind screen and a louder horn in my future, but I'll save those questions for other posts.

I got an excel throttle lock. I haven't used others but I am really liking the excel. The guy that sells them was super responsive to my order, installation was a breeze and like you said, the lock is indispensable.
After using it, I don't imagine that ease of use could improve unless you went to electronic cruise control.

I use the "Go Cruise", inexpensive, easy to use, as effective as the others, and I like the fact you can disengage it by simply shutting the throttle.
I've uses several Throttle Meister and 2 Kaoko on a variety of bikes, the Go Cruise works just as well for me.

I read about the Caterpillar O-ring in the thread linked below and for $3 gave it a try. It's great as are most simple solutions. You just roll it to the throttle when you want to lock the throttle and roll it back to turn it off. You still have full movement of the throttle at all times. The o-ring provides just enough friction to hold the throttle in place.

I really like the ability to rest my right hand as I often put in some long days getting to different parts of the country. This is a great solution and if you don't like it, you're only out a few bucks for having tried it.

You can buy a few here from Amazon.com

do it right and do it once...Call Tom @ Excel

BTW - my GO-Cruise broke after 2.5 weeks of use. Nasty simple plastic farkle for $20.00 - never again.

And the Cat yellow O-ring didn't hold.

Call Tom --

Wow. What'd you set it with, vice grips!? :D

Overpriced? Yes. What isn't. Stupid simple design though. Mine has worked great for the last 20k+.

I believe my Go Cruise(s) is made of nylon, virtually indestructible. I've Used them for a few years on 3 bikes, 60+k miles in total with no issues. Mine are the earlier non-adjustable type andthey work with and without grip puppies.
What was it that broke on yours?

Welcome on, DD. I can't recommend a throttle control that DOESN'T have a brake release built in. During a "panic" situation, you will have neither the time nor the presence of mind to manually release the throttle. You'll go for the brake. I know this from experience. Anyway, ::004:: to the Forum. Please post under Member Intros when you get the chance. R. ::022::

I gotta agree with you rem but most don't want to spend those kind of $$'s to retro-fit a proper cruise control. The nice thing about the Go Cruise is that it disengages as you twist off the throttle, generally in a panic situation, that's the 1st action a rider will take.

Was all set to buy a Excel, Went to a bike show and bought the Go Cruise Universal (made from aluminum and is adjustable) for $25. (show special). Still have not ordered an Excel yet. Sometimes the simplest things work the best.

I've got the Vista Cruise and I only use it out on the open road with very little traffic where the chances of a panic stop are slim to none. Sometimes just resting my right hand for one minute makes a big difference.

Spend the extra $15 and get the metal adjustable one. It works better and will last forever.
