Did he have it closed all the way? My last one would stay pretty much closed even when not clicked shut properly.

Yes, he said it came open when he hit the pavement. I don't recall the brand, though.

Just recieved my Scorpion helmet yesterday, it has metal pins that the chin piece mounts on and when locked down is solid. It reminds me of my Nolan modular that I had years ago, down to the being tight in the cheek area. Buy one size larger if you want this helmet. It has plenty of space to put a "Cardio speaker" system and run the wires. I going a long ride this weekend and will break the helmet in. Not sure if I going to use the peak, as I figure it probley going to be a big sail. ::021::

I've had a Shoei Neo for a few years and I can tell you that there are times when the helmet chin-bar is down but not latched securely into place and flips right back up, so if you are in a rush, it feels like you have it secured, but it isn't. I've developed a habit of tugging my chin-bar up to make sure it is latched and secure. So in my opinion there may be cases where the rider thinks the helmet failed, but in reality the chin-bar wasn't secured properly.

I don't think that modualrs have a place on the race track where safety is emphasized. It may be that a modular is safe enough on a track but a regular helmet is safer, so that is the standard.

I might also mention that law enforcement has started going to these helmets (modular) and do like them. ::021::

The UK Police forces have been using them for decades (Schuberth) and a lot of EU countries.

Started? I've seen them being used in many states by LEOs for over a decade now. Pretty sure the motor officer in CA was wearing one back in '09, the last time I was pulled over in CA. That was progressive NorCal though. :D

CHP uses them, but once again you are playing the game of losing safety over your needs. Police need to have the flip up to get the helmet out of their way. A cop can't really take the time to take a helmet off when he needs to be focused on the potential person trying to kill them. They do the same thing with their gloves, they have to be able to remove them quickly. OfficerRob (YouTube channel) did a video about that.

As far as closing the lids and them not actually locking.... That is a failure of the helmet. Their mechanism should leave no doubt that it's locked in place.

Was at Cycle Gear again today and stopped by the new Scorpion Helmet. Took a look at the "latching" system inside of the helmet. I couldn't tell if there was actually metal behind the plastic, but from the feeling of it it did not seem so. Even if there was equal metal behind that plastic, that is some thin stuff and its all that is keeping your face from meeting asphalt. Think it would be fine for off roading as you are not really going too awfully fast. But for use on a freeway, I'd pass.

Although I like the idea of modular helmets, if anyone wants to see a Schuberth broken with bare hands, send me your helmet and I'll video it. The amount of flexion on the sides of the C3 is ridiculous (I inadvertently cracked one just checking it out). Scared me off of modular helmets.

I was very unenthusiastic about my wife wanting a modular helmet. When the first Scorpion modular passed the European standard I tried to convince myself that it is probably safe. Still didn't like it, but decided to relax a bit...just a bit.

After seeing how it protected her after sliding on her face about 100 feet down the pavement I decided my concerns were unnecessary. She only wants modular helmets and I have absolutely no worry about her using one.

My review of the helmet. I put 1200 miles on this weekend using the AT950. I did not use the visor, as I just don’t like the look of it. I am riding with a stock windshield and the Yamaha wings for wind coverage. My former helmet was a multitech Shoei.
I went one size larger and found the helmet to be fairly comfortable. The cheekpads were tight , especially when you lock the helmet closed, either my jaw adapted or the cheekpads finally crushed enough to feel ok, by the end of the trip. The venting worked fairly well, as the temps were in the high 90’s. The helmet was quiet and my cardio system worked well, with music and phone calls. The drop down eye shade seems to be flimsy, but makes a real ping, when hit by a large bug (I ride with my shield open most of the time). It functions ok, but does not lock into postion. Not really a factor. The face shield, though, when open, is almost like a visor. The clear tabs that are used to open the shield, are just above eye level and are somewhat distracting as they are in the line of sight., when running it in the open position. I did not notice the weight of the helmet and was pleased with the overall performance, to include the price. A word on Revzilla, I ordered the helmet and had it the next day, with normal shipping, which meant that I was able use it for this trip, Kudos to them. ::021::

Interesting... Our Cycle Gear in Illinois doesn't even stock them. I'd like to see one and try it on before buying, but can't find any locally. My problem is I tend to be right in between a Medium and Large. I've come close to buying the Neotec but hate to spend that much without knowing it would be a perfect helmet. The Large is just a little loose and the Medium a bit snug.

I got mine on release day. I've put a few thousand miles on it, and it's a great helmet, even if it is a bit on the small side.

It's a little bit louder than my Nolan N104, a bit quieter than my AFX 37 and 39.

It's the nicest helmet I've had with the exception that I hate the lack of a ratchet on the straps.
