I got this email from a fellow motorcyclist. I have done the "O-Ring" recall, but hadn't heard of the second, potentially more serious problem:
I was reading my Feb edition of Cycle World and I noticed a couple of
recalls on the Tenere. The first one does not sound to serious but the
second one could be a problem. You may have already heard of both of these.
*NHTSA Recall No. 11V532000*
*Model:* Yamaha 2012 Super Tenere
*Potential no. of units affected: *1069
*Problem: *On certain of the motorcycles manufactured from June 1 through
August 31,2011, the fuel pump O-ring may have been installed incorrectly in
its groove during the assembly process. If the tabs around the inner
circumference of the O-ring were not fully seated into the groove, the
O-ring could be pinched and damaged, preventing proper sealing. The could
allow fuel to leak from the pump, possible resulting in a fire hazard.
*Remedy:* Dealers will replace the fuel pump O-ring free of charge. Owners
not receiving the remedy can call Yamaha at 800 962 7926.
*NHTSA Recall No. 11V53XXXX*
*Model:* Yamaha 2012 Super Tenere
*Potential no. of units affected: *ALL
*Problem: *Certain owners of Tenere have not been able to resist going on
long rides without consideration of time or other obligations. In extreme
cases, owners have been known to ride for days. This may result is excess
enjoyment and a possible safety hazard when the owner returns home to his
or her neglected spouse or friend or pet.
*Remedy: *No known remedy is available. Help groups are forming is certain
areas. Please call, 1 800 ICANTSTOP if you feel you may have been
affected in this manner or would like to report a friend who may not be
able to stop long enough to call.
Good Luck with getting both of these fixed.
