My name is Mike and I live in the high desert of California. I've been riding for 41 years, but new to the adventure bike scene. I just picked up a 2013 and I look forward to learning all the hot tips for this bike, and meeting everyone.

Depends on how you want to use it. In your area, non-sump mounted skid plate, crash bars, and go ride those high desert roads!

I picked up a used AltRider plate from one of the members here, and it worked well for desert riding.

Welcome. Not sure about desert requirements. I live in the tropics and the only sandy area I see are beaches.

I had the Akrapovic money reducing mod installed. Better sound, not too loud, love the idling rumble. Chinese Rox Risers for city street car side view mirrors clearance. Touratech crash bars. Givi SR2101 top box rack and a Givi top box Maxia E50, Givi Pannier racks with quick release, got it used, Kappa KGR33 Garda pannier boxes.

Most interesting thing I found recently was NGK Platinum plugs with projected tips. CPR8EAGP-9 versus stock CPR8EB-9. World of a difference in throttle response, making the T mode seems like a S mode while S mode is like a rocket. Too bad the America's does not carry these plugs.

Most shocking discovery on mods was the DNA air filter. Bought it used (3 years old) and after 1 year plus discovered the PU rubber are disintegrating with cracks initiation coming off from pinch points. DNA has been in contact with me on this issue.
