That's a great engine in the FZ-09. If I remember, back in the mid 70's Yamaha made a 750 triple that was tenfold better than the Triumph engine back then. Why is everyone surprised that they've done it again? Say what you like Mr Yamaha knows how to build a motor. I know the FZ-09 was aimed at a price point but its pretty hard to rationalize throwing $1500 worth of suspension at a $7K bike.
I'm hoping the FJ-09 is released soon. I'm also hoping it contains the goodies that the FZ-09 is lacking like adjustable suspension, ABS, traction and FI control. If it does, I'll probably trade my Street Triple for it.

Some here may know I'm a stickler when it comes to fuelling/engine management and feel that is the Achilles Heel on my 2012 S10, even after the ECunleashed flash. The FZ-09 seemed fine to me. Yes, A-mode had a very quick throttle but it was linear. Standard mode is where I was most comfy for my style of riding. I've owned a few Triumph triples and I'm a big fan of triples. The FZ-09 didn't have the annoying cam change noise of the Triumph and heat was less of an issue on the FZ. Yep, I was impressed!

maybe it was my bike, but the fz9 had a huge off thorttle chop. The flash from NIck at Stoltec sorted it out nicely. The suspension is a must if you use your bike as intended.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the bike, but needed the cash, and a buddy of mine basically paid for what I put into the bike.
Done deal. Now I'm slumming it on a fz1 that cost me $1900.

News to me, but I just read my new Motorcycle Consumer News that notifies that Yamaha has re-written the programming it is available, free of charge, to address the throttle issue. All '15s get the re-write.

well, there you go. If the problem didn't exist, neither Yamaha, or the aftermarket would worry about an EFI fix.

What would you be willing to pay for said configuration? What is FI control?
How about self-cancelling turn signals, four way flasher, and a proper gear indicator that works when the is clutch is pulled?

technically the 09 has adj. suspension. Not fully adjustable mind you (preload and rebound front and back), but adj. never the less. It also has selectable Power maps (FI??), and a working gear indicator. No ABS for N/A but available everywhere else.
judging by the current demand of the market it will have: ABS, TC, probably a 4 way flasher like the 2014 Tenere, not sure about the cancelling turn signals, and all the current goodies.

Basically, if I can get features comparable to or better than the S10 (without the off-road capability) in a light weight (< 450 lbs wet) sport touring package, I'd probably pay as high as 12k (US) for it and trade in my Street Triple. By FI control, I meant like the S10's sport and touring modes.

The current FZ-09 already goes the S10 one better in that it has 3 drive modes (A, B, Std), not just two.

I'm thinking the FJ-09 in the US will be priced at $11K or less. Competition with the upgraded Tiger 800/XC is a good thing for use!

Would need to be a lot more bike than the FZ-09 to interest me. I want all the electronic features my S10 has or forget it. It's pretty hard to go backwards once you have them.

really? yes I'm very grateful for the ABS, but if the Tenere didn't have TC it wouldn't be a deal breaker. Unless its just above zero and raining, do care about the TC.
The power modes were a bit useless on the FZ. I had the ECU reflashed to start up in STD mode, and that's where it stayed. Again, ABS would have been nice.

TC will not save you from a front end slide. We all have TC in our wrists and brains. ABS is great for panic situations, and I will not knock that, but that's just me.
Bring it over, it will be an interesting bike. I would be more interested in an fz07 with tall legs, and spoked rims ::015::

speaking of going backwards...i'm enjoying my 13 yr old FZ1

+1 on this. It would make a lot more sense to me. But Aren't 07 and 09 about the same weight? I want a light middle weight with the 270 degree twin.

Yes and I love my 10 year old FZ1! Would buy a new one if it were updated. ABS saved my bacon once on my Speed Triple and there has been twice that the TC may have kicked in on the S10. Hard to say as I was busy with manual inputs at the time! I was mid corner and things were getting sideways. I rode the FZ-09 and wanted to love it but other than the motor the bike seemed a bit budget or basic. I like all bikes but I've also gotten to a point where I prefer well equipped bikes. It's 2015, what was once exotic equipment is now readily available. That's not a bad thing. I bought the '14ES for the heated grips thinking I would never use electronic suspension. Now I use it. Could live without it but don't have to. That's why I say it's hard to go backwards.

Jeez, my dirt bike doesn't even have a neutral light! I love the electronics too but grew up riding without 'em and you don't automatically crash without ABS and TC.

Now cruise control is one feature Yamaha really should put on the FJ-09. If they don't, boo.

I grew up riding bikes that leaked oil and broke down on occasion. That was 40 years ago. Not sure I want to go back to that either. I do manage to ride my 2004 FZ1, no abs no nothing without crashing so I've got that covered. Here's the deal, if you like the FZ-09 buy one, its a great bike. In its current form it's not the one for me. Wish it was because I like the yellow.

fair enough.
Trust me, I don't ever want to go back to my first bike...1980 honda hawk 400...
Next few months should be very interesting indeed for Yamaha and the tuning fork fans.
