Hi all,

First off, I haven't owned an R1 in many years, but it is a name that is easy to remember, and is the first online forum I ever joined for motorcycles.

Anyway, my wife got a 2013 Super-T a couple of months ago, and after we did a long ride up the Northeastern US (I've been riding a '14 FZ09) I decided I had to have one as well. So a couple of weeks ago I found a 2012 with almost no miles on it, owned by an older gentleman who developed health problems shortly after buying it. I'm really looking forward to some long rides with the wife now!

I actually found this forum while researching a no-start situation with my wife's Super-T this morning. We were all set to ride in to work together and she hit the starter and no fire. Sounds like the fuel pump is priming, and it turns over the way it always has (which is a bit sluggish imho but it seems this is a thing with these bikes). I began to do the WOT thing just out of habit from my old carburetor days, and it almost sounded like I got a fart, but we were running late so she just grabbed my FZ 09 and we split. When I get home I'm going to try again with the WOT thing - especially since I've seen positive confirmation of it on the forum. For the folks that have had to go through this, How long does it usually take cranking it @ WOT for you to get fire? Thanks in advance,

Chuck

Welcome to the club.

sounds like you jumped right into a stable of XT's

Got two myself but never have yet had that problem.

I am sure you will love them both for a long time.

Enjoy

Chuck, greetings and welcome to the forum. I've had my 2012 since Jan of 2012 and had my first no-start last week. I bailed and took the cage to work. When I got home, opened the throttle all the way and cranked for about a minute. I got a fart and immediately let off the throttle. Didn't want to red line. Then had to fiddle with the throttle while cranking to get it to finally kick over. PITA. Funny thing - hasn't happened before or since.

Welcome to the forum Chuck, There have been numerous threads on this subject but this one seems to get one up and running the quickest

WOT = Wide Open throttle.
Hold the throttle wide open while cranking. If it doesn't start, you may need to remove the fuel injection fuse while you clear the engine from excess fuel, then re-insert the fuse and try to start again.

Do a search in Technical discussion and you will find much info.

Congrats on your purchase, Chuck. I have a 2012 and so far (knocking on wood) I have not experienced the hard start issue. Keep us posted on how you make out, would you?

Cheers,

Bruce

Welcome!
Welcome! The only time I had the "hard" start issue was after I washed the bike. Maybe a little too much water, but at some point you have to get the mud off before it starts to effect the GVWR!!!!!!!!!!!!
Later,
Norm
