Hi all,

New to the forum. I recently bought a 2014 S10 (ES model) but didn't ride it just yet. Waiting for spring before taking it out from my garage. (Though I have ridden another S10 2015 last year so I know what it's like.) Looking forward to the first ride in a couple of weeks from now and especially going on a tour to Norway this summer with some friends. I will be checking out topics like seat mod and ECU flash, so anyone having done the ECUnleashed flash for a 2014 model is welcome to share his/her opinion about that. Some say it makes a huge difference and others seem to think it's overkill for the 2014, or at least that's my impression from reading some posts here and in other places. Anyway, glad to be part of the forum and looking forward to exchanging experiences with the rest of you guys.

Welcome from SoCal! I've been to Sweden a few times, but it seems only in winter! I have had my '15 model re-flashed and in sport mode notice definite improvements in throttle response and roll on at highway and canyon speeds. It's still a little herky-jerky in 2nd gear using sport mode. Touring mode is perfect now. Before the bike felt pretty much dead in that mode and now I find it much more useful, especially at low speeds where sport mode remains a bit abrupt. I used the Flash Tune brand since it was only $200.

One should keep in mind that mine is a California emissions compliant bike. I don't know what the differences would be for a euro model.

Thanks for sharing this feedback and thanks everyone else for welcoming me to the forum. In Sweden, one of the main Yamaha dealerships is the one performing the ECUnleashed flash, so by choosing that particular flash option you actually don't void your warranty. It's a bit expensive, but keeping the warranty is a major selling point to me. Also, should something go wrong with the flash, it's hard for Yamaha not to take responsibility for it since they are the ones performing it. Btw, I don't think there is a specific California emissions compliant version of the bike. Euro legislation is quite tough as well when it comes to emissions and I think Yamaha makes sure to comply with all internationally. But I could be wrong.

I'm not sure either but my service manual seems to cover four different 2015 model numbers. I assumed an ES and non-ES 49 state and California versions of each was the reason.

I ended up getting my ECU flashed by Velox Racing in Jersey, European dealer for Flash Tune tuning. Mail in service at only £130. Great service and the bike seems to run great after the flash. (Though I only rode the bike once before the flash so can't really compare.) I did notice a difference in second and third gear though and that was the main purpose of the flash. Anyway, happy to have spent one third of the price compared with some other options out there and, arguably, getting the same results.
