Hi all. I'm a returned rider since 1999. Before that I hadn't been on a bike in 25 years. Since '99 I've owned a couple of cruisers, an ST1300, a KLR, and am currently riding a Wee Strom. That's all going to change in mid-to-late January. My name (and more importantly, $$$) is on the next XT1200 that arrives at my local dealer.
My decision was based upon my love for my Wee Strom and its inherent limitations. I rode it to Colorado last summer, a round trip of some 2000 miles. On that trip I was faced with its limitations, especially that at times factoring in wind and how heavily it was loaded, my top speed was around 65 mph.
I did some research on the Triumph Tiger 800XT, and even went and sat on one. Then I read the comparo in MotorCyclist between the XT1200 and the BMW R1200GSA. That got me to thinking about maintenance, dealer networks, and power. The Tiger is a nice bike, no doubt. But would it really do what I wanted it to do? Anyhow, after sitting on one and talking to a couple of dealers, I became convinced that the Super Tenere is really what I want and has enough power to do what I need.
Thanks for making this forum available, and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions and comments after I take delivery of my new steed.
