Ok, this is getting old.
We have a FZ09. Great bike, great motor, shit suspenders, and a laughable tank.
Yamaha goes out and builds a small sport tourer based on the FZ09, good move. ABS, TC, bigger tank, small fairing, all good.

Now, we have FZ07, great fun runabout bike (think sv650, RD/RZ350 etc etc).
Yes ABS was not offered, but not really needed (If I had the choice, i would have sprung for ABS).
And now, we have a faired FZ07..

And still no small tenere based on the fantastic 7 motor.

BOOOOO!!!!

I agree with you 100%, greg. That engine belongs in a small Tenere. Only good thing for now, I guess, is that I won't be spending any $$ on another bike, like I would if a 700 Tenere came out.

Yamaha USA will be having a new model video for dealers this Thursday, the 4th, but I doubt if we will see anything significantly new in this intro.

I have a sneaking suspicion they are catering heavily to the euros.
the FJ09/MT09 Tracer is selling like hot cakes.

But you are correct, it will save us from buying another bike. The big blue pig is a keeper, the 7 does a great job as commuter/fun bike/hooligan,
and I broke down and bought a KeepTakingMoney for serious dp/dirt use.

I'm an optimist.

It ain't over. Like I tell my kids.....I can outlast you. I'm patient. I'll wait.

In the mean time, I'm all grins on what I already got, and happy dreaming about what might lie in tomorrow.

There's a X version coming, I feel it in my bones.

Yamaha will follow in the footsteps of Honda and their 500cc line, an R, F, and a X. To make the Honda CB500X more versatile, the nice folks at Rally Raid offer an Adventure Kit for it. I've been eying one for a while now...

Greg, can you comment on the OEM suspension on the MT-07, is it better the the MT-09?

ermmm...define better Paul? ::025::
Stock FZ09/FZ07
FRONT: just ok, rebound and preload adjustment. Easy enough fix with a spring and oil swap for a noticable improvement $120/
FZ7 zero adjustment, and I found the dive excessive. Rectified it with a emulator kit, and preload adjusters from matris. Pricy at around $500 usd.

FZ09/FZO7
Rear: Just plain scary. Once you got it outside of it's comfort zone, the rear end would wallow, and be all over the shop. fixed it with a penske remote resevoir, manual preload $950 USD/
FZ7, not much better, but not as scary. Fixed it with a yacugar, fully adjustable, manual preload $950 USD. Night and day. Handles like a hyperactive flea. Great road manners.

And I hope you're right, but how many different variations of one bike could they possibly have...fingers crossed.

Those 500cc Hondas are great little bikes, but they're tiny. After riding Teneres and GS's are you sure you want to fold yourself onto one of those? I've only been on the 500R, but I'm 6'0" with 34" inseam and I had to pretty much contort myself to get on the thing. Very uncomfortable for my arthritic knees, but fun to tool around on! I imagine the body position would be better on the X but there's no getting around the size of the frame.

The Tenere fits me perfectly. The KLR was pretty good as well. There are a ton of great bikes out there but I can't see me ever owning another road bike that doesn't have similar ergonomics. I sat on a FZ-07 at the motorcycle show in Long Beach last November but I can't remember the fit. Pretty sure it felt small. I know I liked the fit of the FJ-09 better.

greg - How would you compare the size and riding position of the FZ-07 vs. the Tenere and the FZ-09? Here are some numbers:

Tenere: 60.6" wheelbase, 34.25" seat height
FZ-07: 55" wheelbase, 31.7" seat height
FZ-09: 56.7" wheelbase, 32.1" seat height
FJ-09: 56.7" wheelbase, 33.9" seat height

By comparison:
CBR500R: 55.5" wheelbase, 30.9" seat height
CB500X: 55.9" wheelbase, 32.4" seat height

So the FZ-07 is about the same size as the CB500X. The FZ/FJ-09 are a little bigger, but not even close to the sweet expanse of that Tenere cockpit!

the tenere is just plain huge in comparison to the fz's. but, I ride it on the high seat setting, with a sargent seat, and my airhawk, and have loads of room. Flat renthal bar (forgot the bend) and 3.5" rox risers...yep read that right.
I suffer from t-rex arms, hence the risers for a good standing reach

The 9 is a taller bike with more leg room, and decent reach to the bars. Overall, very comfy, except for the sloping seat.

At 5'9" the 7 was cramped for me in the stock setting. But with an airhawk its decent, and I will be replacing the horribly bent oem bar with a renthal ultra low, that's lower and flatter. Seat is very flat and comfy. It's a perfect errands bike, and a fun commuter.

Thanks for the feed back Greg, and...... I know you're capable of determining a better suspension from a not so better suspension . ::025::

Where did you source the yacugar?

I've got a front and rear Yacugars on my R12R. They can from Ted Porter at the Beemer Shop, I believe he's the US importer. Your the 1st guy I know that has fitted them to anything other then a BMW. Most folks have never heard of Yacugars.

LOL...

not sure how I came across Ted's name. We got talking, and I was going to California on my first trip. Payed in advance ($300) and picked up the shock from Ted.
I installed it after lunch at the back of the mexican restaurant, and rode the rest of the ride on the new shock...it was a revelation.

I was going to buy my rear shock for my fz9 from TEd, but timing didn't work and I went with Penske. It was a decent piece of kit.

When I was ready for the fz07 shock, I called Ted up, he had them on sale, so I jumped on that.

I'm happy with the service, and workmanship of the shocks, so no complaints.
That and I stopped in both times to pick up the shocks, hence saving shipping and duty ::015::
