Ok I have the fiber plates and metal plates in my shopping cart. Appears this clutch design doesn't use the conventional spring set I'm used to seeing on my Suzuki racebikes with individual springs. Do I need to order the spring plate/ring whatever it's called for the tenere? I usually buy new springs on my suzukis so does this spring design on the Yamaha require replacement at 32,700 miles?

It's a diaphragm spring, some have replaced theirs with Barnett springs, but unless you find that the tension is no longer there I would not see a reason to change it, also, but any reason that you are changing all the plates too? Are they worn or warped?

Ok thanks I will add it on. I don't know the condition of the plates other than it creeps forward a tiny bit when I rev it up quite a bit like 4-5k rpms. Down shifts have become clunky as well. I have not been kind to the clutch it's seen a lot of low speed feathering off road and on pavement riding brisk I use it as a slipper coming into turns. I'm pretty sure its worn out. Just didn't want to open it up and not have an entire clutch pack at my disposal. Ordering this from stadium Yamaha and they take a while to get this stuff to me. The whole thing shipping included is not unrealistic at $235 for fibers, metals, spring, case gasket and rear brake pads.

I discovered the 'creeping' when I got the bike first too, apparently they all do that. I would stopped at lights, in 1st, and would blip the throttle a little just o let the guy in front know I was there and lo and behold she creeps forward!! I thought clutch plates fried by the PO, not so, local garage changed out the fluid and bled it through, was a little better, but I think with more intense bleeding of air it could be improved. BTW, not my first shaft drive bike, in fact nearly all my last 12 bikes have been shaft, but the first to creep. I believe they call it clutch drag, lots of threads on the subject here.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother, I doubt you'll see a diference with new parts. Bleed your clutch and make sure you pull the lever in a lot. It's a large diameter wet clutch, it's going to drag if you just barely disengage it.

I've bleed the clutch until I'm tired of ever seeing a hydraulic clutch again. Total pain in the ass with the tiny reservoir.

No something's definetely up with my clutch and my bike didn't creep at all until here recently. The clunky down shifting appeared about the same time as well. It's not a waste of money no more so than me buying a 14 cam chain tensioner and it's only marginally quieter than the stock 12 unit it replaced.

Trust me I'm not kind to clutches and I'm pretty certain this ones not in the best of shape. Its a wear item so no blame to yamaha. I've already kept this thing longer than I normally keep a bike so it must be doing a few things right.

Go with the Barnett pressure plate and spring setup. It's like night and day difference between the Barnett spring and the oem spring.

Just wanted to add that stadium Yamaha delivered all the parts ordered in exactly one week from day of order.

Saved me over a $100 compared to my local dealer and I only waited 3 days longer than my local dealer could have done.

Now after I changed the oil a week ago the clutch isn't so bad anymore. Oh well I got a new entire clutch assembly ready when ever.
