My S10, 2012 going thru my third battery.
I put in the new battery today, starts fine, runs as good as before but now I have Check engine light on permanently.
What is going on ?

Have you checked for codes? available through the dash on a 2012.

How does it ride, high idle? Throttle response? ABS? Speedo?

Give us some clues to work on - we aren't clairvoyant.

How do I get to the codes screen?
Try this ......

Then page through & post codes.

It seems very strange that you have a CEL, yet no other issues whatsoever??

Is there any chance the battery polarity was reversed, even briefly, during the installation? You need to check all the fuses, as @WJBertrand suggests in post #3 above; confirm continuity with a meter, not by eye.

Try disconnecting the battery for a few hours and reconnected. Do you have anything extra connected, fuse box, battery charge cable, heated gear. If my trick does not work. Disconnect it all, see if the problem is fixed, add back one at time if removing the bunch resolved the code.

You don't even have to keep ot disconnected for very long. Disconnect, press horn button a couple times, then reconnect. I do that to reset codes. Should work.

Make sure to turn the key on or pressing the horn won’t do anything. In fact, probably just switching on the key for a few seconds would be enough to drain any residual charges with the battery disconnected.

Do you still have the old battery. If it holds any charge put it in. Jump or charge it. See if it does the same. Real Scooby Doo mystery.

CEL, yet nothing learnt from codes & all fuses good - this makes no sense.

What, if any, after market electronic additions does your bike have - Nav, aux lights, MC Cruise, horn upgrade? I seem to recall someone blaming a MC Cruise for his bike throwing a mystery CEL some years back. Another found the horn had been wired permanently live. Best to disconnect all non standard electronic equipment for the time being.

Is there any chance the bike has been ridden in heavy rain, or been pressure washed recently? Problems often follow recent service work so, apart from the battery has anything else been undertaken?
