I noticed Touratech and probably lots of other companies sells a set of neoprene fork tube protectors..

It this a worth while investment ..or do they trap dirt and water?

I've been using them for almost 100,000km with a lot of off road trips and never had a leaky seal. Up at the Yukon rally there was a few guys without them and they developed leaks.

Did a search on Kriega and got 26 threads. More when using ShockSox.

I use them on all our bikes, including the FJR. I have not had a weeping fork seal since I began doing so five years ago and a combined 180k miles. When I do remove a set the forks they are very clean underneath. I wash them every now and then. I strongly recommend using them.

Thanks That's a pretty good report right there !!!

Rode to Prudhoe bay last summer, before I crossed back into Idaho both my fork seals were leaking bad, my buddy was riding a 800GS with 100,000 miles still using the original fork seals with never a leak, we had rode in a lot of wet sloppy crap but his GS came from the factory with fork gaurds, anyway my Tenere seals were both leaking bad with less than 25,000 miles, I replaced them with a All Balls seal kit and so far after another 5,000+ miles everything seems fine, I just might have to try some kind shock socks.

I also use them. I ride as much off road as possible, and they definitely prevent dirt from getting up into those seals. Highly recommended.

I had a leaky fork seal that was fixed with a Seal Saver. I then installed a pair of ShockSox. The seal has not leaked since. The ShockSox get removed and hosed off about once every two months. Cheap, effective protection.

Used to live in Fairbanks and have made a dozen or so trips to and from the states while using Shock Sox with no seal failures.

too long. I think mine are 6 or 8 inches long. They are not meant to cover the shiny part. They are only wiping it clean with every compression

My bike is in now getting fork tubes replaced because of corrosion. Thought the neoprene socks might be the culprit. Of course I have no proof but this is the internet so you don't need any.

I could see something with a seal trapping moisture and then the tubes getting corroded. I've seen that on a lot of early UJMs that had rubber gators, however, I've seen a lot of early UJMs that had good tubes that might have been because of the gators.
