Needing some advice

I'm on the heavier side and have realized by reading the many threads on suspensions that I'm probably going to need an aftermarket shock with a spring set to my weight as well as my front fork springs upgraded. Does anybody know a reputable place in Illinois that does this sort of thing? I'm mechanically inclined but would like professional help with getting my bike set up correctly. Any thoughts or advice on how to proceed? I'm 250 and have panniers. I don't use them unless I'm travelling but I would guess I put maybe 20-30lbs total in them. ANY HELP OR GUIDANCE would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, check the race tech website and find an authorized dealer, there is one in Cherry Valley, that would be a good place to start.
Cheers

I just installed an Eibach 950# spring using Jaxon's machine work spacer. At 300# plus 'stuff' it is a fantastic improvement for less than $200.

if you're after a rear shock, lots of choices.
Mine, Yacugar from Ted at the Beemershop.

Don...

So basically you just put in a new spring and a spacer? Did you do anything to the front forks by chance? Thanks everybody for the replies! Obviously I don't WANT to have to spend a lot of money, but I am no suspension guru, but I can tell that with my panniers on.. the rear does sag and feels a little mushy.

I had Super Plush Suspension, SPS, in San Francisco rebuild the fronts last year while I was out of commision for surgery. New heavier custom turned straight rate springs, tuned valving, I suspect an oil weight change. Firefight911, Phil, had worked with them over several months to come up with a real nice set up, they even named it after him. My seals were completely shot, soaked brakes, the whole shebang. Would have had to have somebody straighten out that mess, so why not go a little further. I haven't even played with the settings they gave them to me at.
The fronts needed to be worked on because I blew them up, I was good with them as is. The rear I knew was lacking with my phat ass on there, but it was good enough. The back end now is still higher than it was, but it feels real good right where it's at. No measurements, just feel. I'll most likely back off the preload after my road trip, see how that 'feels'. Sooner or later I'll swing by Phil's and see about the numbers.

sweet....thanks for the advice. I found a place about an hour and a half from me that is a race tech dealer. Was on their site earlier checking it out. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what advice and info they have for me. I know they have springs for the Tenere and front springs as well. Anxious to see what they say! Thanks again!
I find myself wanting this bike to be the best it can be. Its really good now, but I think I need a better suspension since I'm bigger.

You're not too far off from Nick at Stoltec. Drop him a line.
He can help you with springs, and a fork piston kit, that will greatly improve the front end.

He does install as well, so ship the forks to him, and he will work his magic. Best money you will spend.
Rear aftermarket shocks make a huge difference on the bike as well, but are just that...a sticker shock.
