Needed a bit of permanent storage capacity - Pelican case 1150 was the solution.

Oh bugger - Kox has arrived on the forum.
Until you have introduced yourself properly in "Members Intros" I don't want to hear another word from you

I know a clean S10 don't garner much street cred among the adventure crowed but that's how I like it (when possible).
The GPS might seem off angle but trust me it isn't - as you should know considering who mounted it.

As I have now introduced myself - you're gonna a hear a lot of words from outta' my mouth ;-)

I understand your angle.
Permanent and plenty of storage space make a bike more useful.

The thing is that my last bike was a 2012 DL650. It was cheap, functional, versatile and nice to ride.
It served me well and I had a lot of good experiences on that bike. But it never moved me emotionally - especially not when I looked at it.
When I decided it was time for a new ride I wanted a bike that I really liked.
The S10 is a better bike in almost any aspect compared to the V-Strom. Besides that I love the way it looks out of the box and don't want to change it too much.
After 3 years with a sensible bike I wanted/needed a bike that moves me on an emotional level.
The S10 is that bike!
Don, you hit the nail on the head. I had a DL650 too, same thing. Great bike, but it didn't really get my attention. Had the same Pelican case on the DL, and it now resides on my Tenere. I have it full of tools, tire repair kit, air compressor, and a bottle of Slime, just in case. Never needed it any of it, except for other bikes I was traveling with. An old enduro rider just has to be ready for anything! ::008::

Thanks for the Post Don - This is exactly what I was looking for! I ordered mine through MCM Electronics, but it appears to be about the same size.

Good Looking ride!

Maybe to add to the OP's post, I have a larger peli case on the rack, but found during summer it really heated up the contents, so I pushed the lid pins out, took off the lid and sprayed it white, using a plastic paint, so that it flexed a little, really does do a good job of keeping things cooler inside.
Pelican Cases are available in many colors if you order them, I have a safety yellow one I use for my electrical test meters. A side not TSA loves to search the thing when I fly, a few hand tools lots of wires and circuitry in my fluke/megger/sensor test box ect.

Great idea as a top box, I did a similar thing and modified the Givi Outback Trekker pannier brackets from my Honda Crosstourer to fit the XT, making them as symmetrical as possible to give me room for the Pelican 1120 on the inside

Ericdownunder did you make the mounting brackets and have them welded on? A photo from behind would be nice. Did you then just drill through the case to mount it on your brackets?

I finally got a chance to get the Pelican 1150 mounted up. I opted to pull both the rack and the sub-rack to get it to mount lower, flush with the passenger seat basically with no gap below:

To do that, I used an oversized stainless steel nut and washer along with a neoprene ring as a spacer:

I then use a larger washer with maybe a 1 1/2" M8 bolt from the top:

Overall a useful amount of water-tight storage and I think it looks pretty good really:

Don T , I really like your setup and I'm going to be mounting same case on my bike. Just curious as to how you marked your bolt holes on the case ??

I don't know how he did it but this is how I would do it:

1. Place cardboard over holes on rack.
2. Poke holes through cardboard to get hole locations.
3. Place cardboard on bottom of case and trace holes onto case.
4. Drill holes on the case.

My bike came with a small plastic cover behind the seat - I used that as a template to mark out the location of the holes on the case.

You can see the cover in this picture:

If you don't have that cover using a piece of cardboard sounds like a good alternative ::008::
As a side note - I used a drill intended for wood to drill the case. It had a pronounced tip which made it easier to drill precisely and it cut clean and easily through the plastic.

By the way -
I've now used the box for several weeks including an extended weekend ride-out with some of my friends:

The capacity of the 1150 case have proved to sufficient for the intended use and I have really come to appreciate the easy accessible and 100% waterproof storage space.

Variation on a theme.....

I mounted a Pelican 1200 case where the pillion seat attaches. I use it for only for tools. The added benefit is that it means I have no place to put a passenger... I never ride with a passenger.

Me neither! That's why I mounted my trunk slightly over the passenger seat so it's not hanging off the back of the bike! ::003::

Nice set-up, Pterodactyl. I also like your "Police Lives Matter" sticker! ::008::

A word of warning. I mounted a pelican case on the top plate of luggage rack with the spacer underneath removed to lower case. After a couple years, I noticed that the top plate has now cracked.
