So I left my bike on the side of a dirt road the other week while I checked out some creek crossings, when I came back I found my bike had decided to take a nap on its side :'( I picked it up and dusted it off, had a few scratches but everything else seemed fine, but it turns out the fan had been pushed into the radiator, the radiator is fine but the fan doesn't work now I checked the fuse and it was blown, replace it only to find it still doesn't work , Rang up Yamaha today to price a new one and he tells me they are a little expensive, OK I say how much? $580.00au ??? :'( ::010::.

the way Yamaha described it to me it sounds like the fan comes with the mounting brackets attached

So is the a cheaper fan that will fit the S10 out there somewhere or do I have to suck it up and get ripped off?

The thread here http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=12204.45 has information about stripping and fixing and if that doesn;t work suggests fans off the FJR, Versys 650 and Ninja 650/ER6 may all work as possible replacements.
thanks I did read that thread but I thought someone might have found a bolt in replacement by now, I might try and clean up the brushes and see how that works
cheers

There's a pretty good chance the fan got pegged against the radiator and the motor burned out. I replaced my fan with an FJR fan I got on Ebay for $50. I just took the motor from the FJR fan and replaced my burned out fan with that. It's been working perfectly fine since Feb.

You will need to unbend the fan bracket mounting bars since they are probably bent in which makes the fan contact the radiator. I don't trust the welds on the bracket so be careful with that. The FJR bracket will not fit on the S10.

yes the fan was up against the radiator and I have fixed the fan bracket, so did you put your old fan onto the FJR motor or did you just use the motor with its FJR fan still on it?

I took the fan from the S10 and put it on the FJR motor. You could use the FJR fan but it's considerably smaller. Now, you need to ask yourself "Is the FJR motor designed for a smaller fan? Can it handle the larger fan in the longterm?" For that, we'll see. It's gone several months without issue.

The only thing you would be taking from the FJR setup is the motor and nothing else. It's an '03 motor so I'm not sure if it has the same mounting screw locations as the later ones. If you want verification, ask the seller the distance between the 3 Philips head screws in this picture and then see if the screws on your fan have the same distance.
EDIT: Replaced the word 'fan' with 'motor'. You could use the FJR fan as well but it's smaller than the S10 fan.

Also, the plug connector will be different. I cut off the end from the FJR fan and crimped on two female disconnect terminals which fit perfectly inthe S10 fan connector.
