Need help with the name of the "skid plate" that's pictured.

Is something similar to the factory "skid plate" that runs a little higher to protect the oil filter? Not planning on any serious off- roading to warrant a full plate. Had my fill of it on different bikes.
Edited due to early morning drowsiness. ::002::

He lives at the intersection of the two main runways at Calgary International Airport, according to his profile. :D

Am I missing something here? I don't see any photo attached to the string anywhere. Is it just my computer, or are others (not) seeing the same?

Cheers,

Ok guys. Here's the deal. I posted a picture of a stock bike which had a stock skid plate. I just bought my bike a month or so ago and threw a tarp over it, haven't even started it never mind spending a great deal of time looking at it since I bought it on spec. A friend bought one and after spending sometime lurking here thought it would be interesting. I thought the picture I looked at, had the guard covering the oil filter to which I was mistaken after it was pointed out. I removed the picture but I am still looking for molded cover for the oil filter. Not really interested in the large metal ones at this time. Now as to where I live, I'm in Cochrane but work for one of Canada's airlines and seem to spend more time in an airplane on a runway than at home.
Great site by the way. I'll stay away from the keyboard from now on .

LOL. Please don't stay away from the keyboard! I am not sure, but I don't think a partial skid plate, just covering the oil filter, exists. My Givi plate protects the filter, and is not huge, but it may be bigger than what you are looking for. I don't think the Givi is really suitable for serious single track riding, but it is a very effective gravel guard anyway.

Cheers,

Bruce

Bruce, thanks for the pic. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm trying to keep things as light as possible and want to be realistic in the actual riding i'll be doing at this time.

Hey SingleTrackMind,
I too spend way too much time at the airport! (I work for a chain of general aviation terminals)
I'm no pilot though. (network engineer)
But I couldn't resist responding to your comment on "light as possible" ;D
Wrong motorcycle. Too late. It CAME as a cargo vessel, and is never gonna get airborne. :-\

Instead, think of it as a Ford F350 Crew Cab. And then to protect it, just hang all the Big Truck accessories on it.
Brush guards, Ranch Hand bumpers, headache racks, .............

Then simply accept that you just put your tarp over The Biggest Dirt Bike In The World. (TBDBITW)

Which is FANTASTIC, of course.

Cheers
Bruce (Another one)

There was a gent that found one of those alloy filter wrench cups that fit the filter perfectly, it stayed on fine between changes and protected the filter from rock chips.

Thanks for the info, I will look for it. I realize the bikes a tank but coming from a mt bike background it's almost a sickness when it comes to weight management. Being 6'4" tall the fit of the bike was the most important thing for me. Seeing some of the bike pics out there I'm very impressed at the way they have been "Farked" out. Being my first street bike things and ideas may change in time.
