I should have named this R.R. “Out Of Siberia, Gone South!”
I had Zero trip planning and Zero research before taking off on this trip.
Last Saturday morning when I got up and checked the 10 day forecast I seen a window of opportunity to ride south and make it back home in 5 days between snow storms.
The problem was Saturday morning my daughter called and wanted me to take the whole family shopping in Iowa City for the day. So I never even started packing until Sunday morning before I hit the road.
I just knew SOUTH was the answer.
About a week ago FredZ43 helped me put up that map in my signature spot., Then Fred said I was a Slacker for not having Louisiana colored in.
That started really bugging me, [Not because Fred called me a Slacker] But how did he know? We have never met, Maybe he had been talking to Michelle.
So I got out the map and looked for something scenic down near Louisiana, Natchez Trace Yes! It was settled, South I would head.
When I left home Sunday morning my bike said 15F.
I slabbed it to Nashville and pulled into an RV park right at dark about 30 miles from the North East end of the Natchez Trace Parkway.
I don't think it hit 40 degrees all day.
This is actually a picture from the south end of the NTP but I was in a hurry to get on the Trace and ride.
I still wasn't out of the cold and snow yet, but it warmed up fast.
It is very scenic on the N.E. third of the NTP.
When my temp gauge hit 45F I had to stop and strip. There was so little traffic that no one came by while I was in my shorts.
I did have two run ins with the law on this trip, this would be the first but I was able to out run him and get away.
The Trace is 444 miles long and they had to ferry across this Tennessee River back in the 1700s and early 1800s, I don't see how.
I camped on the Trace one night.
They even let you ride on some of the original OLD Trace.
Some swamp along the Trace.
I did leave the Trace to see this, Then went back to where I got off so that I road every mile of the NTP.
I tryed to stop at all the pull outs and overlooks to experince the whole Trace, I even stopped to smell the flowers.
Then on the way back home I rode the Talimena Drive.
I rode from one end to the other and never seen one other vehicle, not one.
My second encounter with the law didn't go as good, I got run down by this guy.
My last nights camp at a lake in South Mo. The only one there.
It's a good thing I stopped to camp at that lake because just north a few miles I hit this, The Actic Ice Pack, all the rest of the way home.
I did save this last picture for you Fred
Proof I was there.
Please no one mention SLACKER and them North East states until at least mid SUMMER.
Thank you all for reading,, May GOD Bless you!
