My new S10 sounds like a bucket of bolts!

It sounds like a huge Mini bike..
I had a Triumph triple 1050 Tiger and it sounded worse at low RPM.
Anything in a laboring low RPM will make catastrophic sounding noises.

Thank's for the feed back, I now don't feel as if I have the only noisy S10.
I am able to duplicate the noise by putting it on the center stand in gear. The noise is coming from the side cases.
The final drive sounds quiet.
I like the thought of putting a video on youtube, I'l work on that.
I do have a tendency to lug the motor as with my CB 750F but I can't get the R's up in heavy slow traffic.
The DRY SUMP design may be the key, the gears aren't bathed in oil, good point!
I wil be doing the first oil change with Amsoil 10w40 & filter and FD oil. I hope that it will make an improvement!
I think it might be a good idea to purchase the extended service plan then I will RIDE MORE AND WORRY LESS!!!
I do like the 48.9 MPG on my first 2 tanks of premium.

Thank you all, Remember, Keep the shinny side up!

50 mpg is the first sign that you and I have a different version of noise making it to our ears.
Mine is about 10mpg quieter. :)

Hey, Shane!

How'ya' been? :)

No, it's not me... I love my Super Ten, and all the noises it makes are music to my ears, especially since the damn thing has been bulletproof and unbreakable in 34,000+ miles! ::012::

And the last time I was up at Fargo's I was disappointed. Maybe I got 'em on a bad day, but the "Q" wasn't nearly as good as the first time I was there.

Did you ever sell your S-10? You back on the Gold Wing or an FJR?

Howdy Dallara!

I have just been busy!! I still have

And I also have a 2013 BMW K1600 GT!

I have just been so busy business wise and of course we are all getting ready for Alabama's big DEFEAT tomorrow :D :D!

Well, I didn't mean to hijack this thread!

Cy, the Super Tenere just sounds like a good old Ford sometimes but she is very reliable and a great bike!

Best Regards,

Aggie85 AKA TCR!

Yep, center standing the bike will get the traction control all sorts of pissed at you, all sorts of clashing and banging goes on when the computer is working to keep the rear wheel spin under control. And there is always a gear to keep the rpm above 2k in traffic, even if it's first gear.

My new S10 gear box makes CLANKING & BANGING noise under2k RPM under a light load in the lower gears. My dealer said that this is NORMAL and that they all do it! This is not acceptable for a new bike. Am I unique or have others had this problem? Not a HAPPY start!

Wait till it breaks in 8)

Congrats on the new bike...you'll love it.

Once I got the throttle bodies synched up and added a little fuel to the low end mix it didn't thrash quite so badly at the real low rpms. I can idle along at 8 mph or so (like you said, at light loads) and it is pretty tractable. But this machine is indeed kinda 'clattery' with all the parts spinning up high. Put a skid plate on it and you'll magnify that somewhat. Just come off the line at around 2k and shift between 3k and 4k normally and it won't crunch around so much under those light loads. Heavy loads, you won't notice it so much ::26::

I've alway thought the engine sounded like a coffee can full of gravel being shaken.

I always thought it sounded like a jet turbine...with a fistful of loose bolts circulating around in it. If you ever take a spin on it with a half helmet or no helmet you will swear that it is going to grenade before you get it home. That's why they make ear plugs, eh? Odd sounds but extraordinary comfort and more useful than any other ride I have owned.

Don't panic! My new one was super noisy and rough for a bit. Has started to get real smooth now. Tranny still clanks like a truck, but I kind of like having a truck tranny on the bike. Love it!

Interesting, mine was fine when new, and after breaking in for 2 years I can't tell any difference, still fine and dandy. I can't say I've felt any improvement, not that it needs any, but the break in, gets smoother thing I haven't experienced. Same old, same old.
::026:: I sat on my S10 for a minute yesterday listening to it idle, just to see if I could hear anything untoward. Nope. It just purred like a kitten, as always...

Mine was very noisy when I got it, but after 20k miles it is silky smooth. It takes a LONG time for this motorcycle to smooth out. For me break in was about 6K miles. It smoothed out a lot after that and continued to smooth out for another 5 or so.

After returning from Utah and passing the 24k mile mark in the process mine has become quiet which has me concerned :( No more nice clickity clackity from up top which means my valve lash is probably on the tight side now. I guess that $500 valve lash check will be getting done sooner than later.
