Just bought a Super Tenere, so now it is time to plan farkles! I've read a few threads on here about additional lighting, though apologies in advance if I haven't read everything yet, there's a lot of info on here! Thought I'd post what I'm planning to do to see if anyone has any comments on whether it's a good idea or not.
So, I will be getting the AltRider Crash Bars, and will mount a pair of PIAA LP270 fog lights on that. I want to mount them on the crossover bit, which looks tricky because of the bar curves, but I've seen pictures from people who have achieved it so it must be possible. I plan to keep these on all the time as daytime running lights, and to improve the low beams at night. I hear the PIAAs aren't as bad for oncoming traffic as others.
I will also buy the Baja Designs OnX light bar that's designed for the ST and mount that under the headlights. I'll wire that to come on with the high beam headlights, and be off at all other times. Not interested in a Skene dimmer or anything like that, as I'll have the PIAAs for being more visible in the day. I'd like a simple on/off switch for the OnX though, so I can turn it off if I'm following traffic far enough back that I could use the stock high beams without dazzling the guy in front.
I'm hoping Baja Designs have a simple harness with a relay trigger and an on/off switch for the OnX, but their website isn't very clear on this. I'll probably email to ask. I believe I tap into a pink wire at the headlights, or a yellow wire at the harness (is this still true for the ES model, does anyone know?) to trigger from the high beams? I'm not sure what people are tapping into to get the switched power trigger I'll use for the PIAAs, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
My only other thought was, I know PIAA do a ST kit for the LP530s, so perhaps if I got the harness from that (available separately?) it would also work with the LP270s, and I they would then just be plug and play into an existing connector on the bike? Anyone know if this is the case? And, if so, where is the connector it plugs into? Any pictures?
Thanks for your help guys... and let me know if you think this will be a nice, bright lighting set up!
