A person should pay more attention to the things he buys.
Have the GS bag mounted on the bike but thanks to your video I now know it expands upward for a bit more room ::)
Installed it and went on with the rest of the box of Yamabits without really trying it out.
I also ran a strip of 3M paint protection film down the top and sides of the tank for those muddy, dusty rides ahead.
After using the strap type bags I'm looking forward to the quick disconnect feature, especially when refueling.

I saw that in your RSS feed yesterday, great review.

I, too, am very happy with the tankbag. I've used the rain cover, btw, and it works great. Actually the drawstrings hold it on without ballooning up at speed like some others I've used in the past. The only place the bag touches the tank is covered by my tank protector. Fill-ups are much easier than with strapped bags. I am also very happy to have the electrical version with a powerlet and a cigarette-lighter jack, so I can keep my cell phone charged and if necessary recharge my Bluetooth headset while at lunch. I wish it had 1 or 2 internal pockets but that's a minor issue.

All in all, I recommend it too. ::024::

Had one on my ZZR1400 (With the integral power) and got one on my current GS, if I get the Tenere I will definately buy another of these - is this a standard bag or a Tenere specific item?

It's the standard bag, just with yam tank fittings. I think they were a bit silly calling this model "GS", makes it seem bike-specific.

I just picked up the Bags Connection City version and I'm in the process of installing. I was wondering if anyone has found a nice place to hide the long electrical dongle and fuse block. Oh and a few pictures would also be nice.
cheers,
Katoum

Sorry, no pics available right now, but I just coiled up the extra under the right side cover. I did it with zip ties so it's easy to re-do if I need to change it due to installing anything else.

Please note that since about 8 months there is a new version of the tank ring available which is even easier to use. It is called the Quick lock EVO tankring.

See http://shop.sw-motech.com/en/by+products/Luggage+Systems/Tankrings/index.htm

Mounting the bag onto it can now be done much easier because you can just mount it vertically. No need to slide the tankbag forward when mounting.

The EVO tankring also requires the EVO tankbag ring ofcourse. I had the older version but exchanged it for the EVO. Much easier mounting and removal of the tankbag. ::008::

Thanks for the replies. I ended up running the power cable under the tank. With the tank rotated upwards I let the cable lay down the back of tank and curved to the front of bike and fed the connector throught the frame to the area in front of right fork tube. I then used industrial velcro to attach the fuse/relay to the right lower electrical panel cover on the outside about lower triple clamp height. I then took the remaining two conductor battery lead back to the battery using the stock loom route.

Interesting that when I talked to sales at Twisted Throttle they never mentioned a EVO model, I guess they wanted to use up existing stock. Is there an electric version for the EVO model? I never saw one. It appears to be a very nice compact bag exactly the size I was looking for and build quality seems a cut above my previous bag.

cheers,
Katoum

All 2012 info can be downloaded here: http://shop.sw-motech.com/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop,inline,132005053324198,en,1320050729-26696,,Downloads,57,,.htm#Katalog

As far as I could find the EVO does not have the electic version (yet).

I contacted them and received this reply.

"We do actually have limited quantities of some of the EVO tank rings. They are however, all non-electrified at the moment. We'll be getting more quantities in soon and will eventually be switching over to the EVO's exclusively.

Regards,

Justin "

I did some horseshoeing when learning to ride/train horses with my old master, these rings remind me of horse shoes, maybe good idea to have one on the bike for good luck, but according to my horse master it has to be the left hind leg shoe. :)

The Quick-Lock Evo electric (smaller, lighter) tankring looks more like a sporty horse shoe, The older one is more like a workhorse shoe. I like the the EVO (faster), ;D but apparently they wont have it till next year, they're also redesigning the electric connection.

If they did have it they wouldn't ship it to US/Canada, but that wouldn't be a problem, I'm going to Europe in a couple of months .

I've been using through luggage connectors for years and see no need to go with the electric ring. One disadvantage of the electric rig is that it has a small current, even when no accesories are plugged in.... if connected to an unswitched circuit. Also the through luggage solution is more cost effective. Take a look:

As always... YMMV.

Is there room on the front of the SW-MOTECH City or GS Quick-Lock tank bag to install the plastic electric flange? I can't find any good pictures of the front of the bag.

OK here's my bag mod.

BTW - good review, thanks for reminding me the bag has an expanding feature. I forgot. Have had this bag since August when I got the Tenere. I have the electric ring. I use it to charge the phone and run the xm radio. Works super. The bag doesn't leak in mild rain without the cover, with the cover it stays dry in the downpoors.

I fastened a velcro tab to the bag so I can place my heat controller in a handy spot. Used a couple pieces of aluminum siding for a rigid backer for the velcro to retain it's shape. The rivets might be a bit too much. Might try to paint em black.

mrpincher, nice idea there, do you have a picture of the opposite side of the bag. If there is a good spot for the electric flange, i would go with the new Quick-Lock EVO.

I think the electrified tank bag is only rated at 3 or 6 amps. ? I now realize my explanation is a bit unclear regarding my intended use. Please see pictures attached. This heat controller is rated at 20 amps, if you ran this wire through the bag you'd need to devise your own connection. Unless, the new EVO is running more voltage than the one I purchased.
