Hi guys,

I already had CA residency when attempting to register this bike (I have been working out here on and off for the last year). I have exhausted all options, and the DMV will not let this bike (VIN number) be registered in California, by me or anyone else. It's a crappy situation, but hey, it happens. At this point, I just need to sell this particular bike to someone outside Cali, and perhaps get one that would be legal here.

I appreciate all the creative solutions you guys have brought to the table - I wish they could work! The best help now would be to tell anyone with the love of Teneres like us there is a good deal to be had (assuming they don't live in CA). Please pass the word!

Thanks again for all the support!!

Sorry to hear that Dave, I just assumed that you were still an AZ resident because of your profile. Good luck selling the bike and I am very sad that you have to!! This state is so AFU and the VIN blocking is another attempt by the tree huggers to keep non-Kalifornia compliant vehicles out of this state.

If you do end up selling it and are interested in a white 2013 just shoot me a message and I will see what kind of deal I can work for you. I got a GREAT deal on my 2012 from him.

Truer words have never been spoken! That state is jacked up, and they got me in a pinch!

Thanks for the info on another Tenere, will have to look you up once I take care of this one!

I don't ever go to the Republik of Kalifornik.

Sorry for your disgust - I would be not quite as tolerant as you, I fear.
Too bad, since you're missing some of the best riding, scenery and weather there is. Anywhere. People love to beat on California because of all the rules and regulations but with 36 million people, you have to have some. And the fact is that CARB, the Calif Air Resources Board, was created because you couldn't breathe the damn air in the 60's. It has gotten much cleaner in spite of a 3 or 4 fold increase in population since then. It's still not great in So Cal but way, way better than it would be without the emissions standards. I don't see why motorcycles should be exempt - clean air benefits everyone. I do agree that they are a bit anal about closing some of the loopholes, however I was able to bring in a used St1300 about 10 years ago, but it had over 7500 miles.

Ok, if you say so. CARB saved California.

You do know the other 49 states found solutions just as good as CARB's? For exactly the same reasons. Valid, I admit. (I do not argue that pollution must be addressed)

I also agree California is a paradise for outdoor recreation.

The difference is that the other 49 states welcome American citizens to come and go. Or to come and stay. It's very American.

California seems to welcome you to go.

Must be Friday. I have less self discipline to stay on subject. :)

Sometimes it does seem that way. I'm in agreement. But I left for work reasons a few years ago and still miss the weather, the variety of terrain and drivers that generally know how to drive. Up here, ugh. Don't miss the big cities though.

Does anyone know what a California ST has to make it pass emission standards of CA? Different muffler? Different ECU map?

If you go to a part's fiche and look at the California models, there's a few pages with sections marked 'For Cal.' One think that's different is an evaporation canister you'll find on the FUEL TANK fiche. Not sure about the rest of it.

is it sold yet? yes, your being already registered in CA is a problem. 7500 miles is not. find someone who will "loan" you a speedo-odo with 7500+ on it, swap, verify, unswap. NOT that I would DO anything like that, but it works

Very, very unfortunate SC. I hate it for ya. Always regrets being on the other side of the Berlin wall there in The Peoples Democratik Republik of Commiefornia.
There is a term for those dmv politicos there, and their fellow comissars; Revenue nazis.
