I was very impressed with the WaspWorks adjustable screen mount and knew that I would be as I was a user of the Madstad on my Strom and knew this would be a must for the XT12 as well.
The mount works great with the stock screen and may be all that you need. It is a clean look and allows for a great range of adjustability. Even so, I still have some rough air and get turbulence at high speeds.

Which leads me to the MRA VarioTouring Screen in conjunction with the WaspWorks mount.

My results are even better with this setup. The Vario allows for even more adjustment of the laminar lip of airflow over the top of the screen and the adjustable mount allows you to raise and tilt the screen back to put it closer to you and allow for airflow under the front edge of the screen to further smooth the airflow at the top.
I get a wide transition area of smooth airflow over the top of the screen. Instead of a small transition from fast flowing air to calm air that makes turbulence. This gives a wide area that gradually goes from calm to fast and makes for no buffeting.

I am very happy with this setup.

Here are some pics.

I'm happy with the Calsci medium screen. Much better than the stocker. Nice, dead air to my helmet.

I'm not particularly fond of the anchor hardware being in my line of sight, as with the MRA bolt on spoiler.

Angular headwinds and full value crosswinds make many of these discussions moot, IMO. SD, ND, WY, MT, KS, OK, Western IA, etc., for example. JMHO. :D

I'm with ya on the CalSci. That's prolly what I'll get if I end-up feeling the need.

Wasp and MRA, I agree. I rode with that combination through Hurricane Irene in Vermont last week and it held strong. Took both the front wind and huge side wind loads at times. It's a very stable setup.

Isn't that the truth. You need to add NE and eastern CO to your list!!!

Yes, this combination has worked very well for me also. I took Speedstar's advice and put some reference marks on the adjustable bracket, so I could go back to my favorite adjustment positions if I don't care for new ones that I tried.

10-4 on that! At times you have to ride heeled over a good bit just to maintain a straight line. My neck hurts just thinking about it!

Add Tx to that as well.. I rode 200 miles today with side gusts up to 40mph. At least that is what the weatherman said. But at least it was not in the 100's.. ::26::

I've got Wasp's bracket with stock screen now. AFter seeing the MRA, I was wondering if Laminar Lip will make one for the stock screen.

Hey Jon, MRA offers a bolt on and a clamp on version for the stock screen. Laminar Lip may also.

Check it out here at Twisted Throttle.

Just replaced the larger Yamaha OEM touring screen that was fitted as standard on my Explorer Edition by the MRA vario-touringscreen.

What a difference! I can now literally light a cigarette driving at any speed. I've driven up to 100 mph and it was absolutely quiet between me and the screen, no buffeting at my helmet either.

Tried different settings with the WASP mounting bracket, moved it down from the highest position possible to a lower setting, where the screen now optically aligns best with the rest of the bike, and it still is absolutely quiet.

I'm only 5,7 " and have the lower seat in it's lowest position.

LOVE IT! ::015::

My setup is a Touratech adjustable screen mount with a MRA screen. Very happy and no buffeting. The way to go. Enjoy every moment

How does the MRA screen compare to the size of the stock screen? I'm looking for a little more protection for colder weather.

Dragging up a very old thread here, but may help others who are searching. I have a madstad bracket and had tried all positions with the stock screen and a cee bailey tall. I have just fitted an MRA Vario screen (similar height to stock) and although I will need to fiddle a bit to get the position just right, the wind noise and buffeting is already drastically reduced. So I am happy. I held off on the MRA due to the spoiler, but once on it does not bother me at all.

I heard it is no longer available. Had one early on. Very nice piece.
Sold it when I found I was happy with a tall screen in oem position.

Good luck

Still leading a ride next weekend? I have a Madstad bracket (does not have the range of motion as the Wasp, but does tip back about as far shown in the OP) you can try out.

My set up currently is the MRA Variotouring screen with the Touratech adjustable bracket. Some observations:

1) You really don't notice the adjustable foil brackets on top of the Varioscreen.
2) The overall effect isn't bad. Not a Goldwing, but very nice.
3) The black bottom of the Variotouring screen is a nice touch and probably shields the dash from any of the reported lensing and melting.
4) I wish there wasn't the hole cut out in the bottom of the Variotouring screen (as compared to the bottom tapered point of the OEM). I did adjust the position on the bracket to minimize the size of the hole against the back of the dash, and the blast of wind through that opening.
5) The Touratech bracket has been criticized for releasing at the nylon adjustment wheels. This did happen the first time I rode with it. I cranked them down and it didn't happen again. I still contacted Touratech and they ARE aware of the problem. They sent me their temporary solution (longer carriage bolts and outside nuts to hold the nylon wheels in place). They say that the "boys in Germany" are working on a more elegant solution. I received these and installed them and they work fine (although you know need a tool to adjust it, which defeats the purpose).
6) The GPS bar across the Touratech windshield bracket is very nice.
