I get high 30s to low 50s depending on speed, wind, saddlebags on/off, raining, dry, elevation, and how aggressively ridden. I see mid to high 40s regularly when on day rides without saddlebags and speeds of 40-70mph. I run mid grade fuel almost exclusively.

I am looking to buy a Yamaha super tenere. My 2000 Honda Vfr 800 will do anything from 55 to 62mpg.I would like to know what miles per gallon(4.5 litres) riders of the super tenere are getting.as I have seen MCN printing 50mpg average.
I'm getting 50-59 mpg, (Imperial), on the highway, and 43-49 mpg,(Imperial), in the city.

5 year average is 1 liter for 19,5km. Only RON98 octane or higher.

I have a 2000 VFR800 as well. My lifetime average is 43 mpg. My Tenere's lifetime average is 39 mpg so approx 10% less. These calculations are in US gallon and assume yours are in imperial gallon. So looks like MCN estimate should be in the ballpark for you since 10% less than your VFR..

What tyres are those on your black tenere? and what brand are the boxes?
The boxes in the picture are OE, I like them and are what is mounted on the bike 90% of the time. I have Mosko's soft panniers for when I go remote or long distance off road. It only takes 1hr to switch over.
The tires are Mitas E07+ Dakars. They are a little noisy but tough as hell and that's important when your off road or on broken pavement with a loaded heavy bike.
I also ran the Dunlop Trailmax, they are a great all around tire and IMO not as noisy but I don't know if they are as tough as the Mitas E07+ Dakar version.
Its all about your intention on how you use the bike.

It really depends on how fast you go. Under 65 MPH mine, a 2012 with factory side and top cases on, will get 45 MPG no problem.

With the Givi Outback Trekker Speed Breaks, er... cases on, I get 30-40 on the hwy, and 40-45mpg(US) on the twisties. Over 70mph, and the MPG really suffers with these cases.
I am not a mild-mannered rider, nor am I a knee dragger/peg scraper... somewhere in-between.

Ahh that's good.with fuel prices in the UK the way they are now I did not want to buy a bike I loved which did 40mpg.Im turn between the electronic suspension/cruise control or the standard suspension model now.I like idea of the cruise control but not the electronic suspension as more things to go wrong.Im surprised how expensive these bikes are secondhand age/mileage compared to a Honda CRF 1000 Africa twin.
The 2014 up is/was available with cruise control but no electronic suspension. I have a 2016.

Looking to buy a Tenere myself, I have the same concern about the electronic suspension, I've seen Bmw's need expensive repairs when it fails on them. Which model did you buy in the end?

I purchased a black 2019 super tenere without electronic suspension. It has cruise control which is great for when you need to take your right hand off the bars.I purchased it from Wigan Yamaha.i have not collected it yet.I was impressed with it on the 40 minutes I road tested it.Im confident it will do over 50 mpg.I will be collecting it any day soon.I will let you know what mpg I get after I put some fuel through it.I used to go to Northern Ireland for all the road races before corona virus.Next year I will start going again.Im planning on riding to Col du Galibier in August or September this year on the super tenere. One of the areas of Europe I loved riding.

We recently drove over the Lautaret , stunning area. I’m off to the Pyrenees end of September on the bike. On my 2011 I get around 49mpg commuting mainly into the outskirts of London. Motorway riding will put it over 50mpg.
