I use Tomcat bait chunx. No muss, no fuss. Leave them around for the mice/rats, and voila'. . . . no more mice/rats. . . . without any stink. Just make sure cats/dogs can't get to the chunx. I live on the edge of a pasture, with a creek. Was going through about a pound per week. Down to a pound every two weeks. And, no, squirrels don't eat the chunx.
That's a purty one, looks like my very first cat, except he had a broken tail. I had a house cat, raised her from a kitten, lived about 17 years, she died a few years ago . Anyway, there are neighborhood cats that patrol the area.
