Most practical colour and model year choice?

First off, thanks for this forum and thanks for letting me in.

I have a couple of questions:

A) Aesthetics aside, does anyone have any practical preference for one color over another?
( I'm looking to avoid pitfalls such as "..the matte gray finish is hard to care for and touch up ...", or "... the black colour absorbs more heat and cooks your knees in hot sunshine ..." )

B) Would there be any advantage to buying the 2013MY over the 2012MY?
( I can save an extra $1k on a 2012 )

Cheers for any info or help.

As above Blue is best :D but really buy the colour you like the best as all (except perhaps white?) have sparkles/farkles and thus likely require some modicum of skill if repainting touching up (in) or care (if matt ie no polishing)

Welcome on, dardas from Seattle. When you get the chance, please post under Member Intros so we don't miss the chance to welcome you to the Forum. Color is irrelevant (damn, I hate that I have to be honest). As far as I know, there is NO difference whatsoever between the '12 and '13 models. None. Zip. Nada. Nyet. Negatory. ::004:: to the Forum. R. ::022::

Colour is a personal preference and the options seemed to open up on the 13 models. Only thing that was available on the '12's was black and blue. '13's introduced the white, gray as well.
No change in the Mechanicals. Love the white with the red accents. Great Bike either way.
Welcome. ;D

On my black one you could see all the little scratches and swirls in the paint. The white one I have now looks like it got shot up with a paintball gun during my ride from all the bug splats. (I've only washed it once in 4k miles so I don't care but you might.) Not sure how matte paint holds up so I have no idea about it. I would guess Blue would be the most practical , and as far as year 12-13 are identical except for color. YMMV

When I was looking for a Super Ten, I was searching for blue. But in the end I purchased a black one (used). As I've added skidplates and other pieces, I've done so in black as well. And have come to really appreciate the 'dark' look.

I'm with Duckhead. My Raven SuperTen changed to "brown" shortly after my first ride. She's no "vision" bike which is why my riding partners dubbed her "Fancy" from Day 1. I kinda like the name as it belies her true nature as the world's biggest dirtbike!

I just purchased a black 2012, but I wanted a gray 2013. Most of the prices I saw on Cycle Trader were not real "out the door" prices. I called one place in Mobile AL that advertised $11,499.00 for a 2013 and once they gave the out the door price (not including sales tax because I was out of state) it was $12,725.00. I did find a dealer with 3 white 2013's for $11,730.00 out the door, but I did not want white. I got a 2012 black new from a dealer in my home state for $11,700.00 before sales tax. I had a dealer in AR offer me a gray 2013 for $12,400.00 but still would have to pay sales tax in my home state. I wound up paying $12,854.00 tax and all for the 2012 black one. I like black because I have a 2000 Honda 750 Nighthawk that is black. I will now be selling the Honda to fund panniers, top case, crash bars, etc.

I like my black one because it does a better job showing all the dirt I ride through.

I have the 2013 Matte Gray, not really an issue to take care of, other than a warning about not waxing it. The paint itself seems to be laid on well and just as tough as any other paint. One reason I chose the Matte Gray was that it is the only US model Super Ten that I am aware of with a black rear subframe, not a big deal, but I preferred the look....

Any color will do, choose the one that makes you the happiest. For a $1000 savings, I'd go black and never look back!

The Matte Grey is the way to go... stealth and all. You can go fast and nobody will see ya! :D

Including brain dead cagers who don't notice that pavement colored motorsickle and just pull out in front of it.

At this point, you've probably seen the trend. There really aren't any issues with the bike, and one color over the other doesn't avoid any pitfalls. Save the money and get the '12. FWIW, there is so little painted plastic on this bike you can easily change the color with some paint, if you so choose. There are a couple of yellow bikes out there as re-paints. I'm certainly in the no washing camp. I clean, but I don't wash it.

With the PacNorWet conditions, you're bike will soon have a patina of crud on it anyway. ;D (Portland was home for 45 years) And for the US bikes, no changes until the 2014 models.
