Modifying a madstad screen mount

Okay guys, I just bought a new Super T and immediately (before even riding the bike) purchased a madstad screen and hardware. as soon as it arrived I fitted it to my bike, but I really hate the way it holds the screen so far away from the bodywork, there is a 1.5 to 2" gap between the screen and the bodywork behind it. I actually took it off and put the original adjustable Yamaha screen and hardware back on as it looks so much nicer (only 0.5 inch gap between the screen and bodywork). I paid over $200 dollars for the madstad kit so I hate to not use it, I was wondering if anyone had found a way to reduce the gap between the screen and the bodywork so that it looks more like the stock screen gap?
I will probably put the madstad kit up for sale as it's brand new and never used, but thought I would ask here first, the madstad screen is larger and it offers a lot more adjustement than the stock Yamaha screen, but it just looks so ugly to me being stuck so far out!!

I don't know the answer about how to modify it, but if I am understanding you correctly about the gap, I think it is needed. That gap allows the screen to have room tiling forward and backward. If you reduce the gap you would not be able to adjust the tilt of the screen. Also that gap allows for airflow to go under the screen and push the calm bubble over your head based on what I have heard.

First, welcome to the forum. Do you have the Madstad bracket adjusted all the way down? Maybe you need a taller windshield that lets you adjust it all the way down. A 20" windshield adjusted up 2" would be in the same position as a 22" windshield adjusted all the way down...make sense? This would make that gap smaller but as mentioned the gap lets air flow behind the windshield. I finally bought the Madsted setup earlier this year and I really like it. It made a big difference in the wind noise and turbulence caused by the stock setup. It also gives you a nice mount for your GPS.

Thanks guys, I purchased the 22” screen, as yet I haven’t ridden with the MadStad screen just because I didn’t like the look of it on my bike, will give the stock screen a bit more use and will then try swapping over and see if the MadStad makes for a calmer/quieter ride.. my 2016 standard screen mount has a nice cross bar like the MadStad to mount my GPS so no advantage for MadStad. I guess I have to try it and then based on the buffeting and noise can de ide on stock or MadStad.

My Touratech mount tucks the screen back to the body. That sounds strange that the Madstad doesn't. Did it come pre-assembled? Perhaps something got turned around?

I am 100% sure it is all assembled correctly, it just has a large gap which I find really ugly. But if it works I will use it. Will ride with the Yamaha screen for another week or so, then fit the MadStad and see if I like it better for driving (I certainly prefer the Yamaha mount for looks ). I am 6’2” tall so there is a lot of buffeting, I currently have the Yamaha on its 3rd highest setting, and need to try the 4th to see if things get better, then the MadStad!!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
