Just mounted/balanced a pair of e-07's that I had in the basement. I originally bought them because I had dreams of taking on the trans wisconsin trail over fathers day weekend and doing more natural surface rides. Well... things have changed and while I am still planning on riding the trans wisconsin, I will definitely ride much more road than anything. Example, in the last 10,000 miles, approx 20 miles have been off road (or 2/10ths of a %)
What prompted me to get the tires put on today was that my last set, Battlewings (which I was extremely happy with, over 10K miles) seemed to be tripping the ABS (i use a lot more rear brake than I should) quite a bit more than I remembered. They were also nearly down to the wear bars and since I had new tires in the basement, I figured... why not, better to be safe than sorry.
Initially the E-07's felt mushy. I haven't checked pressures yet but I believe that they were set to 33/36 as recommended (yes, I will check). I didn't like/wasn't used to how they turn in and they seem (in combination with just how new they are as well as the significantly salted roads) to slide around a fair bit more. I am hoping things change OR i get used to how they handle. Buy dayum.... I really really liked those battlewings. These are just my initial impressions on the way back from the dealership. I realize things should improve.
I also realize a sport tire they aren't. That said, are they going to become (much) better mannered as they scrub/wear in? I read, IIRC that the best results for ride quality are in the 30/33 range f/r. I am hoping for something like how the shinkos behaved badly at recommended pressure, but raise or lower them and there were improvements to be had (to the point that I didn't mind them at all).
I also recall reading that these tires have a reasonably long life.... crap to me if I don't like them and have to put up with them for 10K miles.
