Missing Air Filter Gaskets

I'm retired now and have some time to work on my S10. 27000 miles, past time for valve check and while I'm at it a new air filter and spark plugs. I got the parts and started working.

I discovered that the gaskets for the air filter and air box were missing. I added them when I replaced the air filter. There is some evidence that fine dust was getting into the engine. I'm not so happy about this. Oh well. I'm still getting great mileage and have plenty of power. And there isn't much I can do about the past.

You all might want to check for missing-in-action air filter and air box gaskets...

Was it a big O ring gasket for the air box that was missing? The filter has a seal built in. I'll check a parts blow up... That would have been that way from the factory, the dealership has no reason to open the airbox when putting the bike together. Unless there was some service in between. I could see the lid being set on a bench, then when lifted off the bench leaving the gasket sitting there.

If your talking about the seal/gasket on the air box lid/top I wouldn't give it another second of thought-- that's what the air filter is for.. The airbox sucks up a lot of junk they the intake hose/pipe then it all has to pass throught the filter.

Now if there's some seal or gasket under the air filter that could be a issue but unless your riding Baja style dirt everyday I wouldn't worry to much.

Got your flow dynamics backwards. The lid is on the clean side of the filter, it should have a seal. Unless somebody has gone the Aussie route with the pod filters, the clean side of the filters there are the throttle bodies themselves.

Ha, there are in fact two O ring gaskets, 13 & 14. One below the filter, and one for the lid. For some reason I can't get an image linked.
